Hey Guys,

I have an R32 GTR coming from Japan in the next couple of months.

I have a pair of N1 turbos I will be fitting to it and also putting 3" Front pipes with 3" cat back, twin air pods and 1 bar of boost. I have heard this kind of setup should be good for about 250rwkw.

Now Ive had yes and no answers to this question, but would you remap the ECU for this level of modification?

My thoughts were yes due to the different turbos being fitted and the change in loads on injectors, fuel, afr's etc etc. But some advise that it is not nessisary for less than 260rwkw... What are your thoughts?

Im in the process of doing exactly what you are planning, R32 N1 tubs, front pipes and hiflow cat etc etc. I bought an R32 ecu and dropped it off to a guy called Toshi (see business for sale section) and he is fitting a new chip to allow me to run more boost and more fuel.

Can anyone suggest what power I should be making??

Let me know how you go with yours when its complete!

Lawrence

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a similar setup and have about 260rwkw, running 18psi boost and stock computer. The thing overfuels like crazy though at high RPM. More power easily available with tuning. If you are getting ECU work done make sure it is tuned on a dyno and not just plug and pray.

I also agree, I think the extra boost I am running was negated by the over fueling. The dyno power curve is growing then it goes all lumpy and drops off etc. This happens about when the fuel ratio curve goes to over fuel. Once I get the fueling sorted I'm expecting to see a good power gain.

ha the figures you are talking about are a walk in the park with a strong health rb26 ,but i would suggest not to waste time and money on remapping or chipping (or even mines)as for around $1200 dollars you can have one of the best computers on the market APEXI Power fc and hand controller from nengun/greenline, trust me by the time you play with the others and dyno costs you could of pay for one. Best bet is to find a tuner with data logger to do the orginal tune as it saves about 4 hours and on a dyno thats $$$ and if you deside to go further a few small investments in key areas and you can really bring the rb to life

mine has garrett bearing turbos 320hp (similar to n1 size)

rb20 afm($300 for both)

700cc sard injector($691)

tomei cams and cam gears($1050)

apexi pfc($1230) and avcr($600)

and i hand made exhaust and inlet

rest std

and made 518hp(18psi)

at about 11psi it still made well over 400hp

i was pretty happy with the return on money spent

The mines ecu has alot of fuel in it.

if i was going to modify the ecu or replace it, i will definetly go power fc. these are designed for the gtr. and cheap thru greenline/nengun. only reason i use a mines is because it came with the car.

u have to make sure u got a healthy 26 when u start pushing 400's.

i have attach my dyno sheet, if you guys wanted to have a look.

    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.

    • lol no cats running str pipes … might put the high flow back on but I suspect it might effect my ignition timing a bit.
    • That looks a bit like yellowing to me. If the rear bar was looking like that from rich idle, I'd ask the question, do you have a catalytic converter fitted, and fully working?
    • Oh yeah gets really bad down here. I’ll have to upgrade the heater and wind screen wipers as well for optimal performance.
