I might take a photo later. The knob does screw off, but the shaft is way bigger than the hole in the top of the rubber boot. The shifter comes out of the gearbox by removing a sirclip.

Geoff - If I got a boot that would side over the shaft, the oil would still be able to get out the top. Unless I cable tied it to the shaft. (But that's just dodgey, yes, I know thats what you would do.)

Duncan - I think this wed might be an SAU meet. Snowman? correct me please?

Chris, it should still be kept in if sealed to the outer shaft and around the top of the box. I know mine is split as well so will need to come up with a fix when I go to redline lightweight also. Cable ties are your friend man :D

Roy, a quick rings and bearings rebuild and sell the leftovers might be in order but ride them a bit for the replacement engine. 2 days to swap engines remember.

Duncan, Weds night at the whitehorse :D

Guys - this Wed is a NDSOC meet. The next SAU meet isn't until 21st Sept (if you don't count the club launch on the 12th) Apparently the HSV Club don't put entires up on their websites until the very last minute - give their members the fist chance to sign up. However, I did notice in the NDSOC magazine that it said Karyn has entry forms so we can get them tomorrow night at the meeting.

Denham - I can sign your CAMS L2S form anytime - so you can either come to the club launch on the 12th and I'll have forms there or else I can even do it on the day.

Snowman, in your travels before tomorrow night, will you have a chance to swing by ICE? I think i have left the keys to the PI unit in my car and i need to post them back. If you can ill ring the guys and see if they are in the car, (blue rope and two keys)

Whats the new beast? More the merrier. The RB20 lives so we will get to test my Sandown theory!?!?!?!?!

Spoke to mechanics today and it looks like my engine woes are sorted, and i wont be needing to spend a fortune on a new engine so can afford to get them to bolt it in.

Only it looks like friends are coming down from Sydney on the 17th, so may only be able to make one of the PI days, perhaps neither. Plus i dont want to rush everything like i did last time... perhaps i should be patient and wait til October and Sandown.

Thanks for the info on the boot Emre. Went to Nissan FTG and got it ordered same day pickup. $18.20 and it slides over the shaft quite easily with just a little lube. Turns out I lost 0.5 of a litre of redline lightweight fluro-blue gold.

I might come down for a bit tomorrow night. Not going to SYD now till Thu.

Oh and .....ah... Happy Birthday AdzMax.....

It's an ex-Signal RH9 GTR from Japan, a total animal.

It needs a bit of sorting out but the owner is keen on a circuit setup.

Good luck with the RB20 dude, are you just swapping motors...?

You are welcomed dude. Funnily enough, that's where I bought mine from 3 years ago and from memory, it was exactly the same price.

No more stench of hot gear oil in the cabin.:D

Yeh another std RB20 is going in...

Is it a 15yr import? Sounds way cool but i take it will be a strict track car or the rego thing of modded cars is sorted by takin git back to std?

God damn - another Troy! And another R34 GTR V Spec! And a crazy one at that!

We are going to have a fair presence at some track days coming up.

And I'm going to have to pull our finger out - or else I'm going to need some more boost! LOL. Emre will have semi's, Troy (ylwgtr2) already has them, RedR32's car is nuts (Ross), and Gerald will have his 32 in action by next year! It could be worse though - I could be running an RB20!

Alot of Ross's stuff is coming off. Apparently a T88 isn't that good around Winton. :D But the base foundation of the car is awesome. But it remains to be seen if it can actually be driven by an accountant.

Is it a 15yr import?

Yeah... It is.

T88 to have Ben's magic touch, FCon makes way for a Motec etc.

Snowy,

You are holding your own pretty well so far mate, I doubt that will change with more powerful cars around you.

My aim is to keep up with you. If i can't, I will be playing at the back of the field on my own.

    • Out here E90s are the cheapest way into a sporty-ish car because everyone knows just how expensive the repairs can get. 8-10k USD for an automatic 335i.
    • Noted. Have noticed BMW are more 'high maintenance' for sure. They've attracted my attention as I think the used car prices seem reasonable vs other options, and the extra quality overall vs a commodore / camry / corolla or similar of the same vintage is appealing, especially the interior, and they are more on the sporty side whereas the others mentioned can be more cruising or economical A-to-B only.
    • Haha yeah I know, this is SAU after all, why are we talking about BMW's of all things!? I hear you on the 'don't have to worry about it' side of things. Having been fortunate enough to be have been able to buy a brand new motorbike or two...never really enjoyed them as much as I'd have liked as you worry so much about where you park it, will it get scratched, stolen, attempted theft, knocked over, etc...and yes dirty. Older less valuable bikes you can just go where you want and park it wherever and not really worry that much in comparison. And who cares if it gets dirty! Never owned a V8, and have had my eyes on VE / VF commodores for years but with their prices climbing so high, the M3 has come into focus more as prices are much closer than I've ever seen...is it a potential contender now?...of course need to factor in the S65 'maintenance' especially and like you said general M car 'tax'. One can dream anyway. But more on the reality front - did read the whole 330i thread as well and was a great read too, both threads enlightening as I've never even driven one of these cars! I do recall 330i didn't seem to have the same amount of issues for almost the same car (turbos and related differences notwithstanding)...perhaps down to getting it earlier in it's life so looked after better than the 335i? Perhaps so as your 130i has been good and quite similar, so finding a car that's been looked after well is the especially-crucial-BMW-first-step.
    • Nice. Dont worry about the time of not running. My current skyline hasn't run since I bought it. About 8 years ago.
    • It's also worth noting that I am heavily and unconditionally biased. I've had a lot of cars including some GTRs a fair while ago. I love my BMW's now a lot. They make no sense a lot of the time and the guys on here remind me regularly that I could get something else that does what I want better and cheaper. If you're going to take on an older BMW it's definitely a commitment. If you bail on it early you'll lose money and also the ability for it to put a smile on your face. Stick with it and it just gets better.  f**k I should get into advertising.
