so did you guys come up with who would be the best to use in the n.s.w/act area

hahahaha.... doesn't seem like there is much interest in this.

I'm going to organise with a tow bar manufacturer here in Canberra to get one made and ensure it meets engineering approvals. I'll also talk to him at the time about the possibility of having the design engineer certified so that other stagea owners can get it installed without having to get their own engineers certificate (about $500).

Hopefully this will be in the next couple of weeks. I'll let you all know how it goes.

do you have their phone number?

Max is his name, he's a bit hard of hearing so make sure you talk clearly.

Are you in Canberra? Maybe, we both get ours done and see what he can do for us. I'm ready anytime after this week and need to get it done before xmas.

Hey mate, you'll have to shwo us how it goes, i'm in canberra too and been looking into a tow bar.

What have you found out?

I spoke to Lloyds Caravans about a Hayman Reese towbar, but they said they wouldn't have anything to fit the Stagea. Now that I have it, I'm going to take it to them and check again.

All i've found out is there's a tow bar for the silvia (S15) that has been made to fit onto skylines (R33). since stagea has same chassis i thought maybe it could be modified, but the extra length of the wagon could be a problem. that's about all the stuff i've found, haven't looked too hard though

I have been looking into getting a tow bar - gotta a pretty big trailer to pull, so I went down to ARB to see what they said. Pete (from ARB) said that he could customise me a Hayman Reese pakage for my car and trailer for around $800 or so....But I suppose I will have to see when I take the car into him :)

I was also thinking of getting a Hayman Reese bar customised to fit. But for the same effort and less coss I can get a full custom bar made.

Yeah thats true, but they are bloody fantastic, also, looks like I may be towing an offroad caravan aswell

when are you getting it thedriver?

Has to be before xmas!!!

I've been busy the last few weeks so haven't been able to organise anything. I'm mostly free now for the next couple of weeks, so will be a good time to get something going.

Hey, only read my PM last night, sorry. I'll try to give you a call today!

If I get the chance, I'll gve Max a call and drop in to show him the car and see what his thoughts are. I've got a Dayz kit on mine so my rear bar is a little lower than standard and I'm not sure how this will affect the installation / design. Ideally I don't want the rear bar cut, but I'll see how it goes.

I'd like to get a removeable towball too... not sure what your thoughts are on this.

Also something to think about is whether you want it engineer certified or not.

    • Hey @Butters, did you end up getting this clutch in ? I have just ordered to a uniclutch track to go in my getrag 6 speed that’s in my BNR 32
    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
    • Ah yep. The main message I want to pass on is, try not to get scared of ghosts when thinking about knock/knock detection.  What I mean is, healthy engines make noise. Knock is also noise. Your knock sensor and ECU combo are trying to determine bad noise from good noise based on how loud the noise is. The factory knock sensors and ECU are not good at doing this.  Modern ECU's are pretty decent at it, however I'd still say that you would want to verify that if your ECU says it's knock, that you actually listen to it and confirm that it is correct.  Are you familiar with the plex knock monitor?  https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/ I expect you're the type of person that would be very keen to play with something like this. It is great knock detection and you can pop some headphones on and listen to what's going on.  Knock that you've deliberately induced in low load low RPM areas is not really putting anything at risk and is a great tuning/learning/verification tool.  I just thought this was worth mentioning based on the way you were talking about setting up a base map and the Haltech base map settings. There are better ways to spend your time then chasing ghosts and worrying about detonation in scenarios that it is crazy unlikely to encounter it.  I was also wondering, what ECU are you planning to get? Will it be long til you pick it up?
    • This came quicker than I thought. It ain't even 2025 yet.
    • I somehow quoted my post instead of editing it. I regret nothing.
