Hiya All - Due a clip holding a hose to my oil cooler failing, I've now got a a broke engine. I'm trying to decide wether it'd be cheaper to rebuild it (quoted $10,000 AUS by 4 very well known UK Tuners) or put in a RB26.

Has anyone changed the engine on a GTT for a RB26 over here?

I'm assuming the Loom and ECU would have to be swapped as well but else (cooling pipes, intercooler piping, anything I've left out etc)

I have a simple suggest after driving all the previous model skylines fitted with rb26's .

even if it cost you a little more for the conversion. do it no ifs no buts. :P

I see buy your sig you like a fast cars and probably will go faster then this is your asnwer you will have 400 hp from a stock rb 26 and 5 and 600 hp is very doable on an unopened motor. if you had driven a gtst with an rb 26 you wouldnt be asking this question. its a great package well worth any teething issues.

Hiya Meggala - I was going to sell my GTT for a 550+hp R32GTR so now I've got the option of dropping a similar powered GTR engine into my GTT I might keep it.

duncan I prefer the rb26 for many reasons.

just to name a few sodium filled valves solid lifters ability to handel 500 600 hp. great power delivery great note, revability. good oil system a proven package. If tuned properly the rb26 will prov a great package I have never heard of any one doing the rb30 det conversion who had to pay for labour etc coming out under 10 k with 500 hp. if you drive an rb 26 equped r33 or r32 you will have a grin from ear to ear and such great drive ability and power deliver you will see

So many different schools of thought. Do many people walk away with much change from 10k after putting a std RB26 in their car?

I have a car with no engine, i need to make a decision, i want an RB20 so i can give a certain SR20 a run, but ill happily swallow my pride if it means saving me money and going quicker :uhh:

NO!... LOL I couldnt turn my back on the RB20 for the RB25. That would be like sleeping with your mates wife. With the RB26 at least she is a supermodel and ppl may understand my treachery :whip:

I pondered the same conversion - RB26 into R34 GT. However, just the sheer pain of finding a late model RB26 to me made the conversion a dream. Even finding a late model RB25 NEO was impossible (outside of a Stagea which I eventually ended up with).

Either that or I'm just looking in the wrong places!!

Hiya Dan - It'll physically fit but the hassle will be the ECU, Loom, Sensors and Wiring.

I was already making 350hp on a Dynapak (at the hubs) on stock internals but if I supply a GTR engine and let the tuner keep my GTT engine he'll fit it for free (it'll be the 1st GTR/GTT in the UK so it'll be used for some advertising I expect!)

I'm expecting around 350-400hp again at 1bar but it depends on the turbos I get (hopefully re-built stock ones with metal blades!) as I'd like to run at 1.2bar again.

I'll have to get a new downpipe and another AFM & Filter (probably new intake pipes for the 2 turbos too!)

When it's done I'll post it on here again.

Dude the R34 RB25 engines are worth a fair bit, considering they come with RB26 rods and solid buckets. Really there isn't much difference internally apart from the VVT. That rebuild figure you intitially got is bullshit too, get a 2nd quote from another source - like a machine shop. They won't triple the price because you have a late model expensive car like tuning shops do...

Personally I would do the RB31 (forged) bottom end, and with the RB25NEO top end it would be a real goer. We have a ~600 bhp RB26DETT and a ~600 BHP RB31DET and I can tell you the RB31DET is much much faster. The max power might be the same, but the average power from the RB31DET is much higher. I have never actually worked it out, but it would be a good 60-70rwkw from 4,000 rpm to 8,000 rpm.

My 20 cents worth.
