Hi skyline lovers!

well i stumbled into these forums and have been reading these forums for a few weeks now and have really become intrested in this skyline community, particularly in Victoria.

I'm 18 and currently I don't own a Skyline but maybe in a month or so i will be when i aquire my P's.

I've been buying the Auto Supermarket Magazine and been looking through it looking at prices and thinking which model to purchase.

But I've stumbled upon some queries I'd like to ask you guys so please hear me out.

Q1. Can a r33 automatic skyline with turbo be changed to manual transmission and how much would it cost and where can it be done in Melbourne?

Q2. I know this has been discussed many times before but i get mixed answers and i don't know which is correct. Is the GTS-T version of the skyline legal for P platers in Victoria? Are there any GTS-T P platers that have no problems driving the car on Ps?

Q3. How much would it cost to put a turbo on a GTS skyline (non turbo) and what would the kws end up being? Is it a difficult process?

Q4. How much do body kits cost for the GTS? and where can i get them done?

Q5. How much are custom license plates and how many letters can they go up to?

Q6. What are the other restrictions on cars besides power? eg. exhaust size, how low suspension, BOVs, etc

well these are the questions i have now so far. sorry if these questions are too broad but bare with me.

hope to see you guys soon on the road preferbly in a skyline hehe.

and one last tiny question

where and when do you guys drag?

anyways thanks for spending the time. I hope my post hasn't wasted too much of your time

cheers!

:P:O:D

yes

they dickt him for exhaust, low suspension, tinted windows, and P plates not being "visible" enough

i think they even tried to get him for having those racing seat belt straps

road police are so dodgy

might aswell not let us drive till we're 25

Don't worry about a non turbo auto. Just buy a turbo manual to begin with and save the hassle. It might be a bit more expensive initially but certainly cheaper than converting.

R33 GTSts are P plate restricted. P platers can only drive vehicles with less than 125kw per tonne. R33 GTSts have 134kw per tonne.... tho its only a foul if the ref blows the wistle.....

Number plates in vic can have a max of 6 letters. $405 for personalised, $305 for custom. Ring vicroads for details 13 11 71.

whats the diff between personalised and custom???

also dude if u want a GTST get one... however as it is ur first car u would probably be better off getting a non-turbo to learn how to drive them and get the feeling for it...

in the end its up to what u want... there are plenty of P platers driving R33s but u are more likely to get hassled... maybe an R32 GTST is a good alternative... they are legal i do believe... i have one..

EDIT::

inarks_gtst.jpg

as u can see im on my Ps.

yes i strongly agree with this...

im on my p's with my r33-t but i had another car before this id get a car with a bit less power first and teach yourself how to drive correctly before jumping in the deep end... I'm not saying a skyline is hard to drive quiet the opposite actually but sometimes if you arent being "careful" then can be tricky...

very tricky... especially in the wet... things like that are better learnt in something ur not going to cry toooo much over... but if u really want one... for now u maybe better off with a non-turbo which still have a decent amount of power in em...

remember mate that in the end its UR decision...

i know but this is such a god damn hard decision

it just struck me if i get a gts-t being overpowered the insurance won't cover me right?

but i really really want a turbo

but i want to ask

if i get a gts-t

can i take out the turbo and still use the car as n/a?

therefore i can get insured as a gts i think.

btw when u insure a car do u have to show them the car?

I assume you're talking about legal drags.....

See the 'events' section for all upcoming dates at Calder.

If it's illegal street racing you're after, then try MCCR or some other club that doesn't care about reputation. :uh-huh:

Oh hello

Q1. Can a r33 automatic skyline with turbo be changed to manual transmission and how much would it cost and where can it be done in Melbourne?

It can but its probably not worth it, you should ask meggala as he's done it with his R32. You'd be better off buyin a manual, get your manual P's and then start from day 1 driving a manual.

Q2. I know this has been discussed many times before but i get mixed answers and i don't know which is correct. Is the GTS-T version of the skyline legal for P platers in Victoria? Are there any GTS-T P platers that have no problems driving the car on Ps?

I used to drive a 160rwkw 180sx on my P's, its more the attitude than the car that gets you into trouble, dun drive lie a dick n dun drag every guy and grany at the lights. GTSts are theoretically not legal fro P platers to drive, coz its just over the reccomended power rating, but there are a few who do.

Q3. How much would it cost to put a turbo on a GTS skyline (non turbo) and what would the kws end up being? Is it a difficult process?

Its not that difficult (relatively speaking), and I think according to meggala on an R32 it cost him $1500 plus installation. Or you could just do a complete engine swap. Up to you.

Q4. How much do body kits cost for the GTS? and where can i get them done?

Don't... its just a GTS, if you have to make sure its a 400R kit, coz they look sexy, like dox's. Should cost about $1500 including painting and installation.

Q5. How much are custom license plates and how many letters can they go up to?

Custom plates are $150 for 3 letters 3 numbers eg AAA333

$300 for 4 to 6 letters eg AAAA, AAAAA, AAAAAA

$400 for less than 4 letters eg A, AA, AAA

Q6. What are the other restrictions on cars besides power? eg. exhaust size, how low suspension, BOVs, etc

There's decibel limits on your exhaust (don't have a fart making exhaust duh), the car should have minimum 100mm clearance or sumfin, not sure on this, but there IS a limit. You do wanna clear road bumps. DO NOT CUT YOUR SPRINGS. BOV's are BOV's you can get good quality ones that don't make it sound live you've blown a piston. If your buying a turbo for the PTSHHH sound, get an electronic PTSHHH generator.

and one last tiny question

where and when do you guys drag?

Don't be stupid, you just got your P's... your not Peter Brock. Check MCCR or sumfin for sh!t like that. Or come to the drag meets we organise at the tracks, put some money down and get yourself timed properly.

I suggest you get a R33 GTS, coz you seem like you need to learn a thing or two about the car and the roads first. The last thing we wanna see is a skyliner wrapped around a pole. The R33 GTS still make 140kw something, so its not really a slow car by all means, you'll be able to take any stock 180sx or silvia turbo, and most other stock 4cylinder turbos.

Enjoy your 'line if you get one. :)

hrmz i know dragging is stupid but i dun want to go there to drag

i jus want to watch

i don't think i'm experienced enough to drag

yes a non turbo but alot of people say i might aswell get the turbo version cos its worth it. I personally am a confident driver and would really love a turbo and it will be a hassle to switch from a gts to a gts-t

It can but its probably not worth it, you should ask meggala as he's done it with his R32. You'd be better off buyin a manual, get your manual P's and then start from day 1 driving a manual.

Yes i am going for my manual P's. Its just i saw this 94 r33 GTS-T with a real nice gtr body kit and 17" mags with automatic transmission for $10000! Now i thought thats cheap but downside is its automatic. So thats why i wondered if i can change the transmission.

Now i was wondering when i was talking with my friend about this issue. The factory r33 gts-t runs at 8psi so if i bring down the boost to 6 or 7 pis would that bring the kws? and would vicroads accept this type of downtuning?

anyways thanks for replying guys. has given me some insight when i think of purchasing the skyline :)

majt buy a gts-t u wont regret it. i had no idea how to drive a manual 4 weeks ago and i bought my gtst u learn quick trust me after u crunch the gears 100 times and release its costing u money ehehe u learn very fast + they nice and smooth unlike some old et turbo ehehehe would shake rattle and role :) when u drive. just watch out its scary the first couple of times when u experience the boost kicking in, and as they have already told u watch out on the wet they slide out nicly, but also they have great handling unlike VL's which would in most casses be uncontrolable when doing a stand still :P ud usually loose into poll but id recomend u dont try doing one for a few months yet ehehe
