Has anyone else noticed that in standand mode it changes up too quick (around 2300rpm) driving normally, and doesn't like dropping back unless you give it 3/4 throttle ?

I think this may be contributing to the 'not so good' fuel economy that they get.

For this tank of fuel I'm going to drive around in power mode cause it tends to hold the gear a little longer (around 3000rpm) and doesn't mind dropping back.

Also, what's the best way to launch the auto box? Is it safe to 'put in drive, left foot on the brake, stall it up to 3000rpm, then left foot off the brake' ?

I did a few 0-100 times just by going off the brake and then plant the go peddal, but the results wheren't to good :P

Here is one I posted earlier;

So far I have found the auto to be very nice. Smooth but precise shifts, holds good rpm in Power mode. Torque converter stall rpm allows boost for take off, I absolutely detroyed a Commondoor SS Ute yesterday in the rain.

In the above fun session I simply left it in drive, squeezed the throttle and let the torque converter hold it against the brakes. Got up to ~2,000 rpm and actually started to drive through the brakes it made so much power. Take left foot off the brake pedal and plant right foot on accelerator. No wheelspin, even though it was raining a fair bit. I didn't think it was that fast, until I looked at how far back the wheelspinning Commondoor was.

I can't wait to try it with 50% more power, maybe it will wheelspin then. :Pimp2:

Haha, well done ;)

That's the one thing I didn't like about the R33 GTS-t. If the road was even slightly wet you could say goodbye to quick take offs.. :chairshot

One question, checking the gearbox oil, should it be checked with the motor running ? I remember the old (showing my age !) 180B's auto had to be checked with the motor running...

Hi J, I had the same problem myself, couldn't remember how to check the oil in an autobox. First I had to find the dipstick, I thought someone had stolen it :ufo:

The manual GTR with ATTESSA was great, but no one was silly enough to try and drag you off in the rain. The Stagea is way better, stealth and an auto. I smell plenty of victims :bat:

:rofl: Yepp, with a few mods these things are true sleepers. 4wd turbo 6 that the police don't even look twice at :(

A few mates are trying to get me to deck the back out. Put a bed in the back, red padded velvet, mirror ball, maybe a few little flashy lights... Ahhhh, I'm getting flashbacks of the late 80's in the HT wagon ;)

So, do you think I should check the oil with the motor running? I just ran outside and had a look while the motor was off (and stone cold), and it's way above the full mark....

Jay95: Last I recall, you are right, and the ATF levels should be checked with the engine running.

How is it for everyone driving an auto? I'm kinda scared I'd get bored with driving one full time, 'cos when I'm in either of my parent's cars (Audi A4, 1.8turbo with Tiptronic box, and a current shape new Camry Sportivo - but only a 4cyl, unfortunately :D ) I find myself constantly changing the gears anyway...

I miss not having engine braking in an auto, too, which is why I can only take so much of being away from my car, even though it has the handling of a bean-bag.

I'm actually surprised by the Camry - it handles better than the Audi, without the (slightly) overtight ride harshness. Glad I managed to convince the old man to go with a Sportivo though, as apparently the rest of the range ride and handle like sh!t...

Mine is dumped on its arse with Tein Coil Overs, Blitz FMIC with front bar cut out, Blitz EXHAUST, POD and Dual Stage Blitz boost controler and the coppers dont have the faintest idea at what they are looking at.

The rear has some nice camber on it as well and you just eat a lot of cars at the lights.

Someone care to check the model code of the Stagea auto tranny?  Most of the RB25DET 33's use a RE4R01A...  As do some 300zx's...  It should be listed on the blue build plate in the engine bay...

Not sure if this is correct, but a dealer at Edward Lee's told me the same thing, that they use the auto box from the 300ZX (I assume the Z-32). Can anyone elaborate/confirm?
