could this be a 'bar and plate' vs. 'tube and fin' issue?

my FMIC is 'tube and fin' and i get good airflow to the radiator...

Recent advice from ylwgtr was that some of the falcon twin thermo fans are very low profile so may be the solution for airflow. The radiator still needs the capacity upgrade though.

how low is very low? ive got 6.5 and 4.5cm clearance on left/right of radiator, less if i want a bit of room in case of minor frontal impact (fans in the engine pulleys and stuff cant be too much fun)

  Well, if it was acting like a real bitch when the weather was cold, real cold, and if it is acting less bitchy now that it is not so cold, then it would appear to be linked to how much enrichment the ECU is giving as a function of temperature. I mean, it might not. It might be something else. But it certainly seems like a place to look.
