I think they are over powered for the standard suspension brakes and tyres so theyre out of the sports car league, but a bit too hard edged to really be a GT (not to mention theyre tiny inside) so I'll go muscle car.

Plus the idea of a Japanese muscle car amuses me lol

Its not a v8, muscle cars are all v8's, it fits the other criteria of sports car, those being light (ralatively, especial compared to gt's), not particularely forgiving and relatively small. MG's were called sports cars and they have the worst brakes of anything in existance don't they? I'm just assuming that bit, 'cause they're british. :)

and besides all that, what was the braking and tires of the day in 1982??

Guess a Hyundai Excel must be a "sports" car then... :)

I think its just a "GT" to be honest.. grand tourer.. pretty much a road car fairly well appointed, but can be used for occasional track work.

Most of the GT skylines are like that really I suppose. Not the luxurious of the luxurious, but above your average car, and above average performance.

I slayed a worked VS SS commodore manual on the weekend running 14.5psi and a wife and 2 kids. We pulled up next to each other in the middle of Diamond Creek and he wound down his window and asked "What the hell is that?!!"

HR30 + RB20DET + new turbo = drag car / sports car

I agree, they are a sports car, you wouldn't buy one for touring up highways and muscle cars are generally V8 sedans.

What would a GTR XU1 Torana be? (Other than a bucket of Holden Crap) I think the DR30 would fit in with that.

Muscle Cars don't have to be V8's, all the Hemi Chargers and Pacers should be considered muscle cars I think, maybe GTR XU1's, XR6 Turbo, I'd say a mucle car is anything with either a shiteload of power or too much power as standard for the tyres, brakes and suspension. Which a DR30 definitely has

Hmmm,so would a DR30 with,say...R32 4 pot calipers and rotors on S13 coil-overs wearing fat rims with sticky rubber be a sports car,or still a muscle car?

No thats just a skyline thats very confused :D

I agree that i think its more of a grand tourer, its to big to be a sports car (to me a sports car is something thats light and chuckable), could be classed as a muscle car, but it just doesn't have that real angry persona about it that i think a muscle car should...Where was that comment out a hair dressers car??? LOL

It is a sheep in sheeps clothing.

It has round stove top tail lights ... that is what is important

Aren't they just grand for slip lanes and corners where you can gingerly apply throttle until the squirming signifies all hell is going to break loose?

And what's this crap about them not handling any good. If you want something soft and predicatable then drive a camry. If you want to feel like you've been slingshot around a corner get yourself an M or D R30. My MR30 poo poos all over the Z I had. Ok it isn't a freakin F1 but a WRX is a sports car and they aren't renowned for mid corner speed or stability. Here endeth the lecture................

They have more power than the stock suspension and tyres will take, doesnt mean they don't handle, its just easy to go too fast. Having said that, the R200 is good because even with crap tyres I never had the back end wanting to meet the front end while doing hills blitzes (except the time I decided to try Kmart tyres with 36psi on the back lol)

    • Howdy all,   I had my rb25det S2 rebuilt and finally started it today but have run into a few issues  Engine sounds like a a diesel easiest way to summarise like small ticking, gets louder when revs are slightly adjusted  The engine builder repainted the engine cover leaving no where for me to go off with lining up the CAS so have it as central as possible so not sure it that could be affecting it?, changed the gearbox fluid too but won’t seem to go into gear when running, and only 1 to 4 when off having a hard time finding 5th and reverse anyone got any ideas or a base for me to start off? much appreciated
    • Well, no. It's an 023, which is pretty similar to an 040. Although it is hard to tell from the specs, as given.
    • Hmm. Maybe the (other thing I forgot about!) Haltech removes at least some, if not all, of the problem I described. I guess there is still the possibility of getting it wrong if the AC is set up/wired up for the Haltech as if it was in an R34 (simply because it's on a Neo), and that's playing foul with the R32 AC computer.
    • Glad it eventually came out Duncan!   I believe that might be 040. 044 is the inline pump, so has screw fittings in and out. 040 is more just drop it in fuel and the bottom is "open" (mesh) from my memory
