i think they have to make clear on what the police can charge u with, cos i rekkon what i've seen in the past, the consistency of what gets done for and what doesn't get done is too cloudy. It's like the AFL tribunal... at least they're (a bit) more consistent (or are they?)

I think there has to be some past examples of what can be charged and what can't, maybe then we can understand how far we have to go until the fuzz deems it's reckless. Again, the problem is the actual cop itself...

Hey Ric,

Did you read what i said about people who are too scared to travel up to the limit.. i dont know what you are understanding from what i wrote

my concern and most peoples concern is to do with the fact that the interpretation and usual unfair targeting of people is going to be a problem,

anyone on here will agree that killing someone or doing something overly dangerous like excessive speeding is a problem and that when we do it we wear our fines and we wear our points loss possible licence loss etc.. there is no concern over that.

its when something like losing it on a corner (accidentally) which i am sure a few people have experienced at 1 time or another and getting pulled for it and getting charged unfairly would be a problem

cops schmops mate with the its all about your attitude

i never have a bad attitude with cops because they can be such a-holes from all the threads i have read

but lo and behold i got a fine every time and i lost points.. i dont think attitude played a factor there, WHY because i had done something wrong, so you can throw your attitude story in the bin.. the cause for concern is how is it possible to regulate

you get pulled for speeding they give you a look at the gun and go here ya go.. thats the speed we clocked you at.. which is enough for most people. you saving yourself from an accident by giving too much power into a turn in the wet and recovering from it etc and getting pinned for skidding wildly, WTF is that about.. thats what happened to the rodeo owner..

there are as usual too many arguments about back and forth, but if you take what i say out on context on this online forum then you are gonna get a response from me.. nothing i said was in reference to asking people or forcing people to speed past schools. but phuck me if its after 6pm should people still drive according to what the board says (THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO DRIVE EDUCATION)i never mentioned about peoples kids getting flattened and us not caring.. or how hard it is to lose someone, i am sure all these things are right up there to test the limits of human emotion and grief. nothing you have said has been taken out of context so dont be a hero and counter argue with shit you wanna twist to help your argument

the fact of the matter is they should lock people up

you caught being a loser on the road.. well bam 48 hours in jail.

bam 1 week in jail

make the driver learn

dont take the car away so they have property to argue over and distract them from what THEY did which was wrong

jail will give em a short while to reflect

they do it to drink drivers etc.. do they take their cars away... NO

so what the hell. were there truly no other options than to cause this uproar

On all the SAUWA cruises I've ever been on there hasn't been an instance of the cops doing us for speeding, there have been a few yellow stickers issued, most of which were completely unwarranted. All of us who go on the cruises know that we are resposible for our behaviour on the roads, and if we get fined for misbehaving, then we cop it.

What is a worry is them targetting us, and us having no recourse to defend the accusation made by the police. They are able to confiscate our property without giving us the right to defend ourselves in a court, which I think is wrong.

previously made an intelligent comment on that site and got no reply, so I thought I'd mke this one smarmy..

"If the definition of a hoon is one who accelerates or brakes, then how should one drive a car from point a to point b?

Jump in whilst it's moving and jump out whilst it's moving? doesnt sound very safe."

..... it's up to the individuals to make sure the cops have no reason to pick on them. If you suggest that there isn't a problem with hoons then it's going to be difficult getting your head around these laws. That Leach Highway incident cost 2 lives, just because of some "hoon" and that's not an isolated incident.

The differences we have now compared to the old days is the ****tail of drugs that are available now and the amount of people using them while driving is quite frankly very disturbing. Add to that the amount of alchohol used per capita now and cars that are so much faster, throw in some mindless hoons and it's not surprising that we have disasters occurring and consequently new laws.

Ric, I'm not really sure what your point is, but to clarify a few things..

The Leach Highway incident was a media beat-up. There is no evidence that the driver involved was even speeding, let alone racing. He wasnt even charged. After 6 months of intense "investigation" he left the country and the State Government could do nothing.

this is not to say that it is a tragedy.

However, it is at the heart of this issue - and the fact remains that this law is 100% political stunt scapegoating. be seen to be doing something. anything!

as for the ****tail of drugs and the alcohol staements - are you serious?!

Hoon laws do not take drugs off the streets, make alcohol any less accessible or control their use in combination with driving a motor vehicle.

the fact remains that the majority of people in this club drive sensibly the majority of the time. I hope that no one from the forums will end up on tv as the third and fourth people to have their cars impounded.

:werd:

a lot of hype went along with the incident. a lot of facts were 'made up' by the press. sadly, this incident has not been laid to rest and further inquiries are going on as we speak

I'll leave the Leach Highway incident aside. Lets just say that I know a little more than what you might think about that one. It's not the appropriate place to say too much more.

The reference to drugs wasn't that the hoon law is going to stop drug use at all. If you read that post again you will see that I was making a comparison with the old days, when drugs were rarely a contributing factor. What I was saying was the recipe for disaster is far greater now than it ever was.

I can't see your point about the govt. scapegoating. Read below from our beloved minister

"The Minister said there had been 60 deaths over the last 12 months which were related to dangerous and reckless driving. Seven of those deaths occurred in a six-week period.

"In one incident, the two young occupants of a car were travelling at more than 160kmh down a freeway before the driver lost control and crashed into an embankment," she said.

Mrs Roberts said there were hundreds of drivers throughout the metropolitan area who regularly terrorised their local communities through street racing, doing 'burnouts' and conducting time trials."

Did the govt. cause those accidents and cause people to do burnouts in front of peoples houses or lose control of their vehicles and hit kerbs??? What are you trying to say??

It's a govt. response to many pissed off people and there hasn't been 1 decent alternative mentioned, except by Riazz who suggested that a short stint in jail would be better, but thats not likely considering the jails are full. Driver education? Read KUTTERS post, not more to be said than that.

The acceleration/braking thing well read one of my previous posts on braking and that is definitely an offense under the new law, probably some old law as well. Accelerating, well if you smoke your tyres up on take off, consider that a problem.

If you have a loud exhaust and you give it to her hard off the line, I'd say that would be a problem as well.

If you are not sure what my point is then read the posts again, others don't seem to be having the same problem.

I think we all agree that the bent cop is going to be the biggest problem and the accelerating/braking issue as well is a grey area. There are some other points that I will be submitting to your beloved minister for due consideration and will post the draft here in a few days so that you guys can perhaps add to it.

DanR33's post will probably be the eventual outcome when all the dust settles

I'll give you an example. Some dickheads up the road have on a number of occasions come boring down the road and slammed on their  brakes right in front of my place to turn onto the street opposite me. They left quite a long skid mark on the road. On the last occasion that they did it I was out the front and picked up a piece of wood I had handy and threw it at them. I missed them as I don't throw too good, but they saw it and haven't done it again.

Your example is not a very good one.

ric777 are you 50 with a bad hip? you clearly act like one and have the mentality of a co#k smoker. You also seem to be a cop of your own world.

No not a cop, just someone with a bit more experience than you and judging by your comments it was probably you breaking wildly outside my place. If that is one of your habits then it's no wonder we have this new law :looney:

Alex,

I think our friend Ric likes his numbers too much. And we all know about statistics. That is, what percentage of them are beefed up????? I would like to see some backup on that kinda research. Some URL’s with pref details from our gov!!! Lets face it, more of the accidents on our roads are caused by distracted mums taking kids form and to school, senior citizens driving to their clubs or reversing without looking, tired truckies, stressed workers driving home during peek hour traffic. Shait lets talk about generalisation. And to make my point more clear go to www.Pickles.com.au or www.Fowles.com.au and see for your self what sort of vehicles are in the damaged section.

It sounds like our friend works for the gov or insurance….

Ric,

While I do agree with your driver ethics and law that is enforced upon us civilians I do not think it’s all black and white. And for gov not making money, lets wait and see what eventuates when the law is fully functional. We do follow most social trends from the UK and US. Just get on the web and do a search on …. Insurance/Law/Politics….. and compare the trends. Face it, we are behind the rest of the world by 10 years. Just look at indemnity insurance for instance……That medicine was prescribed to us by US. Lets talk about this in 3 months time when these laws are supported and backed by governing population.

Now I am bored of this subject. Don’t wana think about it . I am responsible. Good model citizen with clean record. Now, when I do get a hold of that idiot that hit me on a freeway at start of this year (due to road rage) all that will change.

I don’t see how someone can bash you up in the middle of the day while your car is broken down . Or how cops can just say “ Today it’s been a hottest day this summer and these things happen”.

Shit I will approach this from their point of view. Shurly they will let me go.

Ohhhhhh, excuse me officer, it’s been very hot today , I must get to my air cond home quickly!

Oh, on that hot note, no word from the cops, or letter, or anything to tell me how they are going about finding the car or the maniac that assaulted me. There are more important things police like to do, wait in the shadows of the overpasses earning Gov money!!!

LIFE SUCKS GET A HELEMET!!!

It is sad to read these insults. :D

Lets all be mature, it is a forum for discussion and people have a right to express themselves. Ric has come up with some interesting stats and I will look into them.

So from that point Ric, thank you very much. It is good to learn something new.

RBVS,

We don’t have to agree with what Ric has to say or we can. But we don’t have to be so vile.

Respect!!!

lol nar i wasnt being a hoon near you i dont know who you are but you just proved my point by prosecuting me as some kind of hoon and you dont even know me. lol

"people who are too scared to drive 60 or 50 or 40 past schools " had you put "out of school hours " that would have made a hell of a difference.

As for attitude, next time you get stopped (hopefully not) start having a go at the cop and see if attitude makes a difference.

Quote " you saving yourself from an accident by giving too much power into a turn in the wet and recovering from it etc and getting pinned for skidding wildly, WTF is that about.. thats what happened to the rodeo owner.. " if the cop sees it as such, there shouldn't be a problem.

The point you made about locking the offender away for a short stint is probably the best alternative I've heard, but the jails are full so it's not likely to be an option.

your comments would suggest otherwise. Read what you posted and your might understand from those comments that you are pissed with my reaction to some dickhead causing a disturbance outside my place

keep it civil guys, was a good discussion and everyone was contributing :D

lets not let it become a shitfight like how some parts of the forums are becomming :D

btw, SilviaWA has taken some steps to deal with this problem

Only mods so far are HKS Hi-power cat back exhaust, K&N filter, ATC Volanti steering wheel, Pioneer stereo, amp and sub. This was my daily driver up until 2015 and sadly hasn’t been driven at all in the last 5 years due to marriage, work, and kids taking up most of my time and spare cash.As such its in need of a bit of TLC and one of my goals for this year is to get it back to running condition and maybe look into club/historic rego. I’ve joined SAU so I can ask a few questions along the way (although I promise to google Current Problem +SAU beforehand!)
    • From talking to the mx5 guys the NC doesn't actually need bonnet vents like the earlier NA and NB models, due to a better designed cooling system and undertray design There's plenty of them used as street cars and weekend track toys running anywhere from around 170 to 250kw with stock non vented bonnets, I initially was going to get some bonnet vents, but, as they are not actually required, I'll put vents on hold for a while and just monitor temps, though I do need to get something to actually monitor engine oil temps though, coolant temp can be pulled from the OBD2, but the oil gauge in the car is not actual oil temp, it is only a calculation based off coolant temp and RPM ☹️ They do recommend upgrading the radiator, which I have already done with a triple pass, and the only other thing they recommend for a street car is heat management, like I talked about above to protect bits in the engine bay from radiant heat, and to either replace the nearly 20 year old plastic coolant expansion tank, which I have done, or get a aftermarket alloy jobbie for some bling They did also say that if I wanted to track the car on occasion a oil cooler and sump baffle would be required, and as I already have had a sump baffle installed when the engine was out......... I'm going to get a oil cooler with a thermostat....... just in case I do eventually track the car, but probably not, but still maybe...🤪
