on the shipping that's pretty much the same things I've been hearing. No viable insurance options with the other lines that ship to Sydney. That price seems pretty fair, works out about the same as Kiwi to brisbane (road freight to syd). I'm in two minds as on the one hand I'd love to have the car land in sydney, so I'm available to go down there and kick heads if need be, but on the other hand not looking forward to having to replace all the interior fitments after they are pinched. Anyway, would love to hear how you go.

BTW, awesome car mate :D Can't wait to lay eyes on that puppy!

Richard

The best way to avoid losing stuff on the wharf I guess is to get through customs quickly which means be organised before the car lands. The longer the car sits around the more chance the dodgy wharfies are going to get to mess with your ride.

I'll let you know how I go and the car will be at the soonest possible SAU NSW cruise so come along. :) When does your GTR ship?

From what I have read, the steam cleaning is also a major chance for stuff to get knocked off, at least in Sydney. The cars sit in an unsecured area, with easy access from the street and basically nobody checking what's happening.

I will have a set of wheels loose inside my car. I will have a chat to the guys a CGL a bit closer to the date of the car arriving, and see what can be done (perhaps have them removed upon viewing the car).

*out of the shodows he lunges, slams his hands on the table*

I must be under a F@#king storm cloud or something!!!!!

1. dotars give me the root around with import approval

2. car natuarally sits in japan for maximum time before being put on ship

3. car naturally takes the longest time it can at sea

4. fortune smiles upon me with a fairly quick quarentine process (lets see whats not there on pick up)

5. only to find out it could take 2 WEEKS!!!! to get on a truck from bris to syd!!! (i could fly up there get a permit and drive it down faster!!!)

6. still got compliance to go (c'mon lady luck:))

*composes himself*

got two weeks till i can drive a car again (nasty police man) with a little bit of fortune i may have been able to drive my car home from sydney the day i get my licence back but it doesnt look like the fairy tale ending is gunna happen...

oh woe is me, someone please tell me your heart break story to dullen my pain :'(

I'll let you know how I go

Thanks mate, it helps to learn as much as possible before I have to do it too :D

That's what I like to hear! You gott take me for a spin mate when it does (if only to calm my DTs from withdrawl)

When does your GTR ship?

don't ask. *sniff

December (possibly Jan) :boohoo:

But it will be worth it

LW: How did you go about organising the TE37s? Any info on that would be great. I wanna buy a set of stock R32 rims and it may be easier (read cheaper) for me to get them whilst the car is there.

Cheers,

Richard

I purchased them on Yahoo JP through Shan (aka FunkyMonkey). I then, after much difficulty for various reasons, had them couriered across to where my car is being stored, so the Volks can be installed on the car (for a price), thus saving me the cost of shipping, customs and import duties :)

Nice work :D

Do you mind if I ask what they cost (pm me if you wish). Excellent choice BTW. TE37= :aroused:

arent u able to be there when the ship first arrives in australia straight out of the container then while you are there you can watch them to make sure they dont flog it and you can take photos of your car to prove what was on it?

Nice work :(

Hey,

They cost Y178,000 all up: I bought when the peso was worth about Y80 to the dollar, so about $2200 for 18" TE-37s in black (special order colour), with basically new Bridgestone Potenzas on all four.

Bling baby, bling ;)

They were actually installed on the car today too.

azza_GT-R: if you are doing all the paperwork yourself, you will have to be on the docks for the customs and quarantine attendences. If you are using a customs agent, you should contact them to arrange a viewing.

Nice work mate. I am rapidly going green :D

How wide are they?

Richard

well i sent mine start of the month and still waiting - neary 17 days already... what a surprise. Hoping it does come the next few days.

in better news the car will at least be on the ship and hopefully in australia in about mid-late october.

Well it occured to me...do they mean 17 calender days or 17 business days, means a longer wait if it's the latter. My car is booked to ship on Saturday, so I'll be ringing DOTARS in the next couple of days to find out the situation with my app.

Business days. (Gov't departments almost always quote business/work days. If its not described, I would go with business/work days).

Yes I'd go with business days as well (I work for a Federal Govt Dept), which means adding around a calender week to the process.....

ill be sending in my forms next week! the gtr turns 15 in october, so should i send them in 1 week before october? ive got an overnight courier airbag organsied too.

steve

No. They will only process your import approval once the car is 15 years old to the month. Send the form in early, and its likely they will either send it back or plonk it in a pile that might be forgotten about.

Of course they may not do that, but why take the chance? They are legally bound to act according to the laws related to car importation, and I can't see someone putting their job on the line by turning a blind eye and processing the form earlier.

Maybe I am just bitter :)

Has anyone who submitted for approval in September recieved any word yet ?

LW.

i still havent got mine from August 1 .. called them on tues and they go its been processed needs to be printed and signed.. they said allow a week.. so a week for that and a week to get back to me..

i just think this is going to work out for me badly... car will land right in between my HSC exams and ill be worrying about getting to sydney to take it to workshops for compliance and everything in my exams.. arrr that would piss me off...

oh well life goes on..

Strange, I sent my import approval last week and I got the approval letter today. Thats about 7 working days. This is probably because im bringing the car in under SEVS and the RAWS made the import application for me.
