ANut
as the title suggest. just wanna know if a P plater can drive in an r33 GTST completely (or relatively) stock. auto or manual.? rs73
NO. Not even in stock form. 187kw/1.360tonne = 137.5kw/tonne way over the maximum limit of 123kw/tonne for P-plate in Victoria. This has been discussed many times in the forum, do a search. foznice
i thought it was 125kw/tonne... ne way stock 33 is still way over. 32gtst is under by like .25 or something if your interested. rs73
well my math above is correct, stock R33 GTS-t is over. Stock NA 33 GTS is not over Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/50338-vic-r33-gtst-on-ps/#findComment-1033387 Share on other sites
aybee
a mate of mine was pulled over and they said you cant drive a 33 on Ps. He didnt believe them so he called the cop station, or Vic Roads, or someone, and they said that its only the GTR that Ps cant drive. They removed his fine or warning or whatever, and never heard anything of it again. . QWAK
I drove my 33 for the last month and a bit on my P's and never had a problem. Not sure if its legal though Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/50338-vic-r33-gtst-on-ps/#findComment-1035160 Share on other sites
foznice
i know that the tightness level of cops depends on the areas and their knowledge of the cars around them... but aybee.. thats really interesting, maybe the power/weight restrictions have changed since i last checked, or maybe vicroads have made a mistake somewhere? rs73
Since R33 are imports, VicRoads may not have factory spec data for it, thus they may only refer to R32 GTR which were Australian delivered, with factory spec 206kw. Thus the power restriciton on GTR, but since R32/33/34 GTS-t were not officially imported by Nissan, they may not have that data and therefore those cars were not in their list. However doing the proper calculation based on factory spec, if all skylines were australian delivered then GTS-t could be included in the list (except perhaps R32 GTS-t, as the RB20DET factory spec has less power than RB25DET) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/50338-vic-r33-gtst-on-ps/#findComment-1035526 Share on other sites

What im trying to understand is why they use power figures from the factory (at the flywheel) and not at the wheels? I understand that getting these kind of figures would be a problem but it seems like an inaccurate measure of the cars true power Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/50338-vic-r33-gtst-on-ps/#findComment-1035543 Share on other sites
rs73
you're thinking is right, power figure at the wheels is not as accurate as factory spec claim (although we know that Nissan may have 'detune' factory spec claim on GTR to make it look like didn't exceed 206kw gentlemen's agreement). There's so many factor on dyno that can affect power at wheels, tyre size, ambient temp, worn clutches, etc. Each car even from the same make and model can show different figure on dyno, especially 2nd hand ones, and testing each car out there for every P-plater would be uneconomical, so just use the factory spec figure and calculate from there what is allowed/not allowed. pavel
Just got pulled over last night. I am on my P's driving r33 gtst, they didnt say anything just checked few things and let me go. martydaman
has anyone here actually been told by the cops that their car was too powerful for P's or dont they take that law seriously? It appears that they dont seem to care whether R33 GTST's are legal or not Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/50338-vic-r33-gtst-on-ps/#findComment-1035752 Share on other sites

foznice
again it's where you live (are imports common in your area?) and the cop's knowledge of the cars. talk to coco69 about cops.... he got done recently for power/weight and defects in a supra.... someonestolecc
If you keep getting pulled over my advice to you is log it (write it all down) and make a complaint. I"m not sure who does police complaints in victoria. I remember one of my friends bought a car from a drug dealer - he used to get pulled over by d's, undercover, highway, local - every cop car. After he found out who the car belonged to and complained to his dad (some richy rich conections guy) who made a complaint to the police and ombudsman (or whoever) and he never got pulled over again. Dizzo
Well here in QLD I'm pretty sure you can drive any car on your P's, and without the P's showing too. They are thinking about changing both of those though Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/50338-vic-r33-gtst-on-ps/#findComment-1058282 Share on other sites
