i recomend you just save and buy one that is already here, it is way too risky and to be honest is a huge headf***. I dont trust any of the companies setup here in aus either!! too many bad experiences.
You can't trust any of the companies setup in Japan either... from top to bottom and unless you pay way more than what you think the cars worth... you'll get ripped off.
They have some good cheap parts there, i know you'll probably have to cater for additional expenses.

For parts: you looking at agents fee (10-20%), auction fee (3%), shipping, and possibly customs/duties on top of the purchase price. Keep in mind that just like any other auction site, price stay low until about 10 minutes before the auction closes and people start bidding like crazy

I wouldn't buy a car from a company of Yahoo Auctions personally: if it was a private sale I wouldn't have quite the same reservations. There are usually a ton of examples of whatever car your after through the standard auctions or car yards, so why take the risk?

Parts, on the other hand, I think are less risky, they I would still have a strong preference for buying from private sellers rather than businesses.

LW.

Is there a similar service to ebay in Japan where you buy from a private service then?

Personally im looking at some HKS Turbos, they seem to reasonably priced.

Ebay is the same as Yahoo: both have a mixture of private and business sellers.

For the record, there is no Ebay proper in Japan. Yahoo JP is the biggest site, particularly for car parts. http://www.bidders.co.jp/ is probably #2, but its car section is fairly weak. MSN and Excite also have a combined auction site (but its worse again).

    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
    • Yeah kids certainly add a whole another dimension to your life.  Life ceases to be about you and more about them for a while!  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love watching them play sport and make new friends along the way. Wow, sounds like your mate is a good guy to know!!!  He's got some serious toys in the toy box!  Yes it would be lovely to be able to do stuff to your car without getting all tied up in boring shit like how to pay for it!!  I would describe my spending style as "aggressively spontaneous and logical but regrettable purchasing"....  That will hopefully make no sense at all which would be appropriate given that is how I buy stuff.  I'll decide at the drop of a hat that I'm buying something expensive, research the living shit out of it for 2 days straight then go out and buy it.  Then I'll have instant buyers remorse for 2 days which generally passes by the time it turns up on the front step!  If I'm feeling ballsy sometimes I'll tell my wife.  Other times it just makes its way silently passed the house and out the back to the shed, never to be spoken of again...
