Hi. Would like to know if i disconnect my battery will this affect my safc settings at all. Cheers. By the way it is the safc2.

Yeh i had my battery disconected just the other day and went "shit, does it keep settings" yes, yes it does.

I'm getting mine dyno tuned this week actually I only have one question about the SAFCII.... Is there a setting to switch between general driving and performance mode, like Hi and Lo settings on boost controllers. Coz i run my standard 7psi 90% of the time and up the boost here and there... Thats when i want the extra fuel to be pumping in and the SAFCII to play its part!

Also anyone who has had their SAFCII dyno tuned, any figures of kw gain you might wana throw this way :rofl:?

Hi geno8r, firstly I have never used an SAFC to add fuel, the standard ECU always overfuels. So you tune the SAFC to remove fuel to increase power.

Secondly, the ECU knows how much boost via the map sensor, it knows how much throttle via the throttle angle sensor, it knows how much airflow via the AFM etc etc. So when you run low boost the ECU handles the different fuel; requirements. The SAFC has very little to do with it.

Thirdly, the later SAFC11's have 2 steps in their programming for different throttle angles. So you can modify the AFM signals at up to say 70% throttle differently to what you can at 100% throttle. This is great for improving fuel economy up to 70% throttle and then increasing power over that.

I don't think so, not on a R33 anyway. While I think a R33 has a MAP, it is connected directly to the boost gauge and not the ECU. It doesn't show on a schematic of ECU, and isn't one of the values you get from consult port (where TPS and AFM etc are). The ECU uses the AFM for things like boost cut.

Yeh well im not actually tuning the thing but I'll pass that the info on to the tuner....

I like it how it has 2 different settings. I duno if it'll be worth getting both tuned or just the one for max power and the other just stock. I'll probably just have the SAFCII on stock most the time and put it on the tuned data file when i know I'll be booting.

Geno8r. In reguards to dyno tuning and gains i will answer this one. I had my safc installed and tuned on tuesday and let me just say OMFG. Power gains or what. A nice 29kw increase. And as Sydneykid said which was right on the money the thing was over fuelling its titties off. The tuner said he had to lean it of all the way through the rev range and now the power is so sweet all the way through and no more bloody flat spot. To sum it up i would have to say if you are not going to go crazy in the way of mods and just want some boost and a nice power delivery the safc for me anyway was worth every penny. 400 to buy unit and 250 to install and tune.

safcII is a good little device... with an safcII, a 3" cat back, avcr (@ 9psi) and a fmic my car made 180rwkw... if you plan to keep your car only lightly modded then the safc is great... if you are planning more major upgrades then get a powerfc... that's what i'm going to do...

can i install it and drive to get it tuned? does it run standard maps until its modified? or will it **** with the standard settings and will i blow the thing up if i drive it?

Yes, it will run exactly the same as without. Its not until you add (+) or subtract (-) fuel out of it that it will run differently.
