Hi

Well i said in some threads in discussion to SAFCII's i was getting mine tuned... Well i did today so here are my cars performance mods and the results!

r33 GTS25T 95' Series I.5

T3/T4 HighFlow VL Turbo

GTR Front Mount Intercooler

GTR Fuel Pump

Apexi S-AFCII

GReddy Profec B Boost Controller

3" Exhaust Turbo Back

HighFlow Cat

MegaFlow Muffler Twin 2" Tip

K & N Pod Filter

Blitz Open-Atmosphere BOV

Brass Button Clutch

Locked Diff

9.5" Wide Rear Works Rims

Always run 98 Octane

Stock RB25DET engine.

Stock Headgasket, Injectors

dyno_9.9.04.jpg

For anyone interested i hope this is enough information to show a power example for these mods and turbo. The tuner said they had a another t3/t4 on another car and it only made the same power on 18 psi, they said they were happy with the result on 12psi and i was too.

Oww i was running Optimax too so once i run Ultimate into it im getting a free Retune in about 2 weeks so we'll see the difference in power there too! BP vs Shell in the ultimate showdown! Bring IT ONNNN!

Cheers,

Care to post up your SAFC2 settings?

Purely for interest's sake?  I'd love to compare them to my tune...

Well depending exactly on how your car runs it'll be tuned accordingly.. i had a quick look... and fuel was leaned out. I cant post up the setting exactly, theres lots of adjustments, + its not like i can do a "Print Screen" sorry.

Cheers,

Very nice result mate! 218kw at the rears is amazing!

Where did you pick up the SAFC-II from? I'm trying to find a cheap outlet.

Came with the car sorry... I would have thought there'd be a few for sale on the 'For Sale' posts when people dictch them for Power FCs. Probably just check Nengun, nismo.com.au, modyourcar.com.au *i think*, and yeh do some searching... Good luck with it.

Cheers,

Thats a pretty impressive gain, you using the stock AFM as well?

I've just fitted one to my stock RB25 with FMIC and pod filter all else stock, I've had a fiddle around with it (small amounts of leaning out) and cant reeaaalllly tell any difference using the "seat-of-pants-o-meter".

I dont wanna muck around with it too much, but i'd like some idea of what ppl's safc's are set to roughly, as far as % correction at what rpm etc? how rich do these things run?

Thanks the sphincter of the universe, remember the Turbo is doing a lot of that gain and not just the SAFCII, they work well with each other. As for tuning, i highly recommend you take it to a dyno tuners... There is lots of little adjustments to get it just right... $250 seems to be a pretty standard rate and they might spend a few hours doing it. You should get a more than happy gain with your current mods, you should really get a boost controller too. I'd get that first, then they'll tune it to your new higher boost! More rwkw!

Cheers,

good work!! its always good to see results from a tuning session. You'd be surprised the difference fuel makes. Originally had mine tuned on optimax, then switched to Synergy8000, an now runs much better, cleaner, less smell, an more power. From what I hear on both here on the forums and from tuners, so long as you stick with either Synergy or Ultimate your pretty set.

Anyway, good luck with the next tune, keep us posted.

fuel cut defender, adj fuel reg, more boost.....go a long long way

cheers

Yup mine cost $100 to get tuned. The guy did literally did it in 5 minutes, 1 power run, tweak, another power run, tweak, final power run. Money please!

Kinda dissapointed me in the BFYB terms haha But the gains were solid...

Well i got to test out my new power this afternoon taking it to some good local roads *yesterday was wet* & i was VERY happy with the power... Shit! 3rd is pulling like a mutha f***a :D & theres wheel spin all the way though 2nd now.. yeh she's got some power going now... Might be able to do high 12's but I haven’t been to a drag yet so who knows. Anyway... just letting ya know 218 at the rear is not to shabby to drive at all.. .lots of fun :) and makes drifting that much easier...

Get the SAFC tuned on a dyno, you can even do it yourself, i do. With the stock cooler i was pulling 18% of fuel out at the top end, but with the installation of the FMIC, its now down to about -12% at the top end.

---

and how did you figure this out? I'm shit scared of making her detonate. My approach was to lean out gradually then swith to the knock monitor, but surely thats dodgy? besides its hard to tell what knock reading is bad, it sits around 40 or 50 normally i think but will sometimes hit 200. I cant wait to get mine on the dyno now, just gotta get new pump in.

I am interested to know this standard knock as well...

The only time i get any knock figures showing on the SAFCII is when its warm and idling. It shows upto 5 sometimes...Whatever that means?

Mine got installed and tuned yesterday 194kw's. With FMIC and K&N Pod. On 12psi.

I'm not sure how much its leaning out.

Also, this morning im experiencing problems with idle when cold now. (only since the SAFC was installed).

It doesnt kick the idle up to the 1200 or so that it did when the car is cold. It was struggling to even stay running, spitting and coughing actually.

I couldnt even get it to hold a steady 1100rpm idle by using the accelerator?? It would just peak to 2000 then back to 600...Once it was warm the throttle responded as per normal??

Weird.

Hi, the current model of SAFC11 has two throttle position programs, they are programable, but usually set with one for under 70% and one for over 70%. It would seem that your tuner has only tuned for over 70%. If he uses the under 70% range he can tune at the low rpm ranges to fix that problem. This will not affect over 70% throttle settings or high rpm.

Hope that helps:cheers:

Does that also mean that I wont actually notice any difference with fuel consumption?

Cause my last tank of fuel I only got 250kms....(i was heavily strapping it) Plus it smells a little fuely on idle, so i wanted the safc to lean it out so it wasnt soooo rich.

That's what the 2 settings were developed for on the SAFC11's, so you could have power (large throttle openings) and fuel economy (small throttle openings). You couldn't do that with the previous models, you always had to choose one of the other.

Have a talk to your tuner, it is a pretty easy job to tune.

Im wondering what the majority of Skyline owners have got the air correction set to when on full open throttle?

From what I can tell mine is on 5.

I *think* I have heard that others have got theres on around 10??

Im yet to call the tuners and talk to them about my current problems, I wanted to have a better understanding before I call them. I did download the English manual for the SAFC2 though. Makes a lot more sense than the Jap one I was reading...LOL

    • Ha ha ha! I know those feels mate I've finally got the garage cleared enough that next weekend I'll do some actual work on my car (hopefully). Unfortunately garage isn't usable after 10am at the moment That said, I've done a lot of work this weekend on helping finalise a friend's Production Race car. Full started Christmas Eve. We're down to about 8 tasks on the list, including "get a wheel alignment". Sometimes it's just easier working on someone else's car or project than our own stuff 😛
    • Ha ha, ended up going it alone.  I just sent it (in a very nervous fashion).  Once I'd released the locks and it didn't automatically start spinning out of control i felt a bit more confident.   It made some loud sounds (cracking and creaking noises) when I first spun it which got the heart rate going again!  I couldn't bring myself to leave it tipped on the side.  I feel a bit more comfortable having back right side up while it sits there. I'd get angry with your last point but you're 100% correct! 😅 Even yesterday I managed to distract myself at numerous times to make a bracket to fit an LED flood light off the back of the house and fix my sons pushbike.  There were other little taks nibbling at my brain for the rest of the day too...
    • Probably one of the more nerve wracking experiences of my entire life! 😂😂 The balance (centre of gravity) is out still but in a direction that gives me comfort!   It's quite bottom heavy still meaning it takes a bit of muscle to rotate it.  The plus side of that is that it wants to to go back to upright.  Better that than wanting to go all stranded turtle on me!
    • hmmm that's not ideal. This is a pretty new engine right, will be interesting if your engine guy has any theories about causes
    • A universal ball joint removal c press kit is better money spent and will work for the Hicas ball joints.  Here's a 45$ CAD Example. ATPEAM Heavy Duty Ball Joint Press Kit with 4WD Adapters | Professional 4 in 1 Ball Joint Press Removal and Installation Tool for Cars and Trucks | Universal Ball Joint Tool with Storage Case, Ball Joint & Tie Rod Tools - Amazon Canada
