HJB
PVA, A good beginners board should a far bit taller than yourself (30cm at guess, maybe more maybe less), and depending on your weight, quite thick. Different people will say different things, but if you stick with those two points you should be right. PS stay away from cash convertors for surf boards, most of the ones in store have beeen snapped one way or another! Careful!! Neo
Hi, It Really depends on how heavy you are. But a rule of thumb is the more boyant it is the better to start off with. I would be looking for nothing under 6'5" high 18 3/4 wide and 2 1/2 thick. Something with rounded rails to stop you catching them when you get up. More then likely a square tail with a flat to vee bottom. But if you are learning from scratch a mini mal or an old boyant number would be ideal. Dont get a new looking light board as that will be to hard to learn on. Depends how much you want to spend too. Guest GR33DyMANGO
yer i have about 10 boards. our house is like a surfboard cemetery.. hehe..... the boards i have are mainly trick boards (ie fish's around 6ft) but i do have one board that i may wanna sell that'd be good for learning on. its a 6'4" colin earle with thick rails and heavily glassed. if u wanna come and look at it my number is 040 127 6963. i live in floreat. how high are u and how much do u weigh pva? for a beginner u will need a board thats thicker and bigger than average so its more stable. if u wanna practise its prolly best to start around summer when the waves are smaller. so nows a good time to buy a board. also if u want nice clean waves try going in the morning before the onshore winds come in.... or u can go really late (just when the sun is going down) and sometimes the wind seems to slow down a little and u only get a slight onshore breeze. hope that can help. adam 32
its all been said. big, stable board is easier to stand up on/balance and better for learners. the better you get the lighter/shorter boards are used for tricks and more mobility speaking of waves has anyone been down in the last couple days?? daaaamn!!:uh-huh: Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/5076-surf-board/#findComment-78649 Share on other sites

Guest GR33DyMANGO
adam 32 ive surfed contacios on saturday. was ok. howz the surf been? looks ok on the surfcam? nice and warm aswell hey and pva.. u should prolly get a 6'3 to 6'5 and one thats a tad chunky to hold your weight. pretty much anyone thats learning should just get a chucky board (aka pig board). .. just make sure u get a second hand board for your first season.. u'd be surprised how much u destroy a board when learning. haha.. when i started i caught a head and half sized wave straight into the front of city beach groyne.. leaving me with cuts with fibreglass inside my hands. every time i moved my hands i could feel the fibreglass breaking inside for about a month. anyway.. i ended up with 2 3ft boards after that:D Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/5076-surf-board/#findComment-78931 Share on other sites
