Has anyone got any info' 'bout HKS stainless steel exhaust manifolds(or extractors to some of us)?A mate has offered me his(off an R32 to fit my R32-I already know it'll fit...)as he's going for a big single conversion. They're stainless steel, bugger all use, with a weird "balancer" pipe linking the merge pipes of the 1st 3 cylinders to the merge pipe of the back 3 cylinders(those who know what I'm on about will not ask for a "smarter" description,I'm sure).Said balancer pipe also has a heat expander joint in the middle...

These wont be going straight on,as I'll be doing it in one go whilst my engine is out being rebuilt-as in:not yet!The reason I ask is that I was planning on looking into something similar in the future, but these have been offered to me now,and I'm not sure I want to lash out without knowing more. His "old" engine was in very similar trim to where mine will wind up,so I figure they work...Apparently,they're about $4100 new(eeep!),and he wants $2k for 'em now.

Anyone running 'em?Ideas on pricing?Whilst he's a mate,I'm guilty of being gullible at times...

Hmm, I've only ever seen one set of these before, but they were very nicely made

What sort of power goals are you looking at?

My first thought was if your not going for anything wild, then the $2k may be better spent somewhere else. But if your after decent numbers with after market (ie HKS :( ) turbo's, then it may be worth while.

I'm gunning for 350 awkw;HKS 2530's,cams,gears,rods + pistons,sump,cooler(oil),fuel system,injectors etc etc...and,yeah,the HKS headers ARE nicely made!I'm just wondering if they're worth it...

For the sake of this discussion let's say they are superior, so it's a question of is this superiority worth the extra cost? If they are to be considered superior in this context they must produce more power (both max and average). So how much more power? Is it 10 kw? Maybe 20 kw? Probably not 50kw, so lets say ~30 kw. Since you can get a few pretty nice looking ones for $1,000. That means, is ~30 kw worth $1,000 more?

Personally I can think of a whole pile of things I would much rather spend my $1K on that will get much more than 30 kw. So in the "bang for buck" test they fail my scrutiny. :)

Not that it really matters but for general info, the balance pipe links the wastegate feeds to help make sure both wastegates see the same pressure/flow whichever is more important. Better boost control and ensures one turbo doesn't spin a lot harder than the other. Thats my understanding of it.

Good looking manifolds BTW

Ah - SK - you suprise me!

Is that an extra 30kw PEAK power or USABLE power (as you keep emphasising)? :jk:

HKS claims that the real advantage is less exhaust restriction and faster spool-up. Dunno how true this is but I picked up some for myself fairly cheaply and will be fitting them on the newly rebuilt motor shortly. These get hell hot, so I would recommend ceramic coating or thermal wrapping to keep under bonnet temps down.

What I have read is the balancer pipe is to equalise pressure between the two manifolds to stop the turbos getting "unbalanced" and "fighting against each other".

I put the 2530's on mine with stock manifold and occasionally (usually going up a hill) on light throttle but enough load to start them boosting, they become "unbalanced" and start going "woosh woosh woosh woosh woosh woosh" if that makes any sense  This is simply fixed by backing of the throttle and putting it down again however.

Personally I dont think they are worth it, as SK said, that money could be better spent elsewhere imho.

Hmm - it's funny how most people don't blink when it is suggested to put on HKS (or other brand) extensions for ~$800, but cringe at replacing the manifolds at ~$1,600.

I would thing the manifolds have more than double the benefit of the small extensions, particularly for a full engine rebuild with cams and head work.

Do agree, however, that it is down the list of mods and cams/cam gears would probably offer better bang for buck and should be done first.

As a matter of interest, the GT-RS terbs are touted on the HKS site as having a unique shroud design (for the GTR applications only) that eliminate the shuffling often experienced with high boost low mount twins. Any experience with this?

Dude you are so full of shit, I really wish you would stop your blantant lies and outrageous pricing from items you've just ripped off Yahoo! Japan.

You very regularly advertise parts that do not even remotely match the descriptions, then back it up with fradulant crap that's no-where near what the descriptions on Yahoo! claim the item to be.

For instance, if those turbos were "for your private collection" why the hell are they still in Japan? That auction finished a few weeks ago, are you saying that EMS is so slow that you haven't taken delivery of them yet?

Well it is up to you... there is nothing wrong with the turbo nor the exhaust bits. Everything is in good condition..

say what you want and at the end the turbo belong to me, i can keep anywhere i want to... in Japan, in Aust, in USA, in UK... i have friend all over the worl so why u care soo much about it..

Also if you say i rip the turbo off yahoo and sell it on ebay, CAN I ASK YOU WHERE YOU GET ALL YOUR PARTS FROM>.. since you are a regular yahoo user...

Well it is up to you... there is nothing wrong with the turbo nor the exhaust bits. Everything is in good condition..

How can you vouch for the condition when you have never even sighted the parts, you are relying on someone elses opinion of the condition...perhaps the guy selling them usually with statements to the effect " the no claim no return understanding"

Its all fine if your buying for yourself, but if you are on selling the parts as a business you will soon get burnt as some of the stuff you end up onselling without firstly inspecting could be crap and ou have just made money out of someone elses misfortune. Better of saying "previous owner claims good condition, i have not sighted parts etc" Sure might be a bit harder to sell but at least ppl will be aware of the risky they are taking.

lol...Give me ya stocka manifolds and ill whip up some manifolds for ya:thumbsup:
