Snowman is usually good enough to play shepherd and pull these days together for all the happy punters of Vic, but i figured as he will busy with the Phillip Island Weekend, id get the ball rolling for Sandown on the 24th October 2004.

The day will be run by the Maserati Club of Australia. For particulars Click Here

Essentially you will require a L2S Cams licence or better, which are now available through SAU-Vic (What? You arent a member yet, well here is your reason to join) As far as car preparation very little needs to be done. You will require:

- Fire extinguisher securely mounted inside the cabin ($30 fom Kmart/Autobarn)

- blue triangle indicating battery location (as easy as electrical tape)

- Secondary bonnet restraint, these are real easy to knock together, but if you need one i will have had time to knock a few neat ones together by the 24th, so just ask

- the other odds and ends are in the supp regs, just follow the link above

Reports are these days typically attract some serious machinery, so great opportunity to get out there and mix it with GTRs, GT3s those Red Italian things ;) etc etc

BUT, dont be intimidated or concerned about the other cars, its a controlled environment and no one cares if you set the timing monitor a light or not :) Get out there and enjoy the performance of your car, be it 150rwkws or 350rwkws, its all great fun. :)

If you are interested then you will need to get in quick as these days book out quickly. So far i am a paid starter, as is i think Snowman :D

Starters:

1. Roy R32 GTST

2. Snowman, R34 GTR

3. West, R33 GTST

4. Skylinegeoff, R33 GTST

5. R31Nismoid, LOL, what is it? R31 GTS-t/X/R with some diesel boat engine :)

6. INASNT, R33 GTST

7. GTTR34, R34 GTT

8. Scotsman , R33 GTR

9. Ronin 09 , R32 GTR

10. Ronin 09 friend, Integra Type R

11.benjamin74, R32 GTR

12. Emre, R33 GTR

13. Adzmax, R34 GTT

14. Red32, R32 GTR

15. Ice Supra, JZ80 Supra

16. inark, RB26 Cefiro

17. ant95GTR, R33 GTST

oh: if your car is broken, then thats fine, if funds dont stretch that far then fine, but if you are waiting for your new turbo, your new tyres, your new 8 pot Brembos, your new electric toothbrush...then dont be weak, come out and have a laugh with the rest of the mentally defective :headspin:

I'm IN, all i need is the triangle thing and the bonnet pins. Please let me know what i need to do from here as i'm totally new to this.

About payment, how much and who do i pay? Oh most importanly what happen if i tickle one of them RED machine from Italy a bit, do i have to sell my line just to get it respray or best just to run on foot and never come back ?

How much do these bandits want this time. Well $125 isn't too bad, and screw the BBQ lunch. I had one last Maser day I went to and it is a full on buffet and I just wanted a nap after.

Count me in.

I'd be all GO for this event, just want to clarify something.... the supp. regs says you need "roll-over" protection if race tyres (eg slicks or grooved slicks) are fitted...... does this mean you need a roll cage on your car if you have semi-comp rubber on??

R-spec road rubber is not considered to be a slick or grooved slick tyre. So if you are running A032/48, RE55/540s, D01J/Z0J, AZENI etc etc then its all good as these tyres are all road legal.:)

If you want to really cheat and run slicks then yes, you will have to throw a cage in. I seriously wouldnt bother with slicks unless your susp is really stup for it, as the weight of the cage could ruin any performance gain of running slicks if you dont have susp setup to make the most of the slicks

Please let me know what i need to do from here as i'm totally new to this.

Just go the link in the first post, that will take you to a PDF file which you will need to print out and post, it also has methods of payment :D

THIS is the thing to be concerned about. You are not covered by your normal insurance. Shannons can insure you, for a price, but i have never seriously thought about it.

Whilst it is great fun, and i joke about having to have a lose othrwise you aint trying, its exactly that a joke. You are going at high speeds, around other cars, some quicker, some slower. So its nothing to be scared of, BUT IT IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO TAKE SERIOUSLY!

And there is the real possibility that you can damage your car, and possibly another. But its all ying and yang, whilst its possible the guy behind the wheel decides how close to that line they care to dance. Saw a good quote on a car recently at Winton..."Ensure brain remains connected to right foot!"

That basically sums up the approach you need. If you are driving with a bit of grey matter you wont hit another car and you will take your car hoem straight. Typically the accidents i have seen basically happened the minute the guy strapped on the helmet... just like on the road your approach/attitude play a big part.

Sermon over... a great idea would be if Sandown will be your first day then tag along with the battered SAV crew at Phillip Island and whore a few rides and get a feel for the workings of the events

Roy is 100% on the money, but the great thing about the track is you can build your skill and confidence and improve every time you go around. Don't try to be a world beater, just have fun and keep plenty of air around you.

Well i can't really send anything off anytime now can't i haha as signing up day is tomorrow so guess i'll be sending it off on Monday.

So what cam license will we be getting after joining VIC SAU? Will i get to go out toghether with you guys at Sandow? :headspin:

Check out the HSV thread, thats the Phillip Island day next weekend, either the 17th or 18th :)

Rattle guns..lol hardcore, thats excellent.

You will have to pay $83 on top of your membership for the CAMS L2S licence. As for going out with us at Sandown, its very possible, luck of the draw what group you get pooled with.

Dont tell Snowman but i nominated 1:35s as my estimate of lap time :flamed: :bahaha:

Dont forget, i cant enter you into this event, you will need to download the supp regs and post in your entry ASAP. I will ring mid week to see how many positions are still available, but im told these days book out quickly:cheers:

ill do it monday if i remember.

gotta get a RWC first, thats my main worry.

silly TMU

Anyone that wants to come to this day but doesnt as yet have a CAMS L2S licence - let me know and I will sign you up on the day (might as well get maximum time for your CAMS $$$). If this is the case on the entry form - where it says to put in your CAMS licence number - just put in TBA.

But seriously - if you intend on coming to this event GET YOUR FORM IN NOW or you will miss out. Track days at Sandown sell out extremely fast. The last WRX Club day sold out in 3 days.

:D

    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4
    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
    • To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
