We can rebuild him Roy!!!

Looking like I will be staying in Vic a bit longer, while I'm not off travelling on the job. Waiting to hear of confirmation of the actual job. Systems Engineer for a wheeled armoured vehicle fleet hopefully.

BTW - for all you arm-chair racers out there - V8 Supercars 2 came out on PS2 yesterday.

I picked up a copy and have to say at an inital glance its 10 times better than the first one. Was very happy to find that not long into the game I got to drive an R34 GTR V Spec at Bathurst.

But anyways.... the Australian tracks are much better. Sandown was pretty good - except that the ripple strips are flat (Sandown they are like gutters in some places) and you can take the high speed chicane at the back far too easy. But still damn good to get some lap practise and work on those lines.

I'd say start at 40psi and we'll take it from there. Plenty of guys will have gauges / pumps. If you are happy with that then leave it - if you feel that grip is a bit funny you can experiement. But for your first time out I'd say start at 40psi and that should do you just fine.

Hey guys,

Quick question for team wang.......What kind of tyre pressures do you run at sandown? Oh and they are street tyres not cheaters :D

I found at PI that 42F 40R felt good but was maybe too high and with reducing to 38F 36R and dropping boost from 15psi to 11 psi I took 3 seconds out of my lap times.

There are 2 critical low speed corner exits onto the straights at Sandown that will cruel your laptimes if you get wheelspin out of them so try to concentrate on them.

As always it's easier to take pressure out than put it in. On road tyres I tend to find my first flyer is the fastest, then the tyres have worked too hard and laptimes drop off a little.

Marcus, there is nothing wrong with RB74's as a couple of dedicated race cars have discovered at PI over the last couple of months :D when I was trying to go under them in the braking zones.

Snowie, is that the codemasters game? I got it for PC and found it marginally better than the orig and not worth the money with the mods available for F1C99-02 that are quite realistic and the best of all...GTR, a sim of the Euro GT Racing champs (only a demo but better than anything else in the world right now). With my FF wheel and rumbling seat with double force drivers it is almost as good as the real thing. Good news is there will be track updates available and online racing leagues.

If your not running sticky tyres then i think you will find that RB74s will do the job.

If you are running sticky tyres then you could run into probs...i dont know.

I dont really know how hard Sandown is on brakes as i have never driven there, but RB74s have been fine for Eastern Creek and Wakefield, and Phillip Island though i never strung enough laps together to stress anything (apart from the driver and the engine:))

Im only looking at different pads because my RB74s only have one more day in them...so if i get track pads the RB74s will likely last another 6-9 months with just road driving

meh.

If you are running sticky tyres brakes don't matter at all...you brake heaps less due to higher corner speed so there is much less pressure on the brakes.

Looks like you are having heaps of trouble Roy, I'd suggest hiring a s2000....they are pretty good, and I hear it has new rear brakes lol.

Must get v8SC2, but I might just spend tommorrow with the beers and the big screen watching the real thing.....its nice to be home :)

Hey guys with 32s - I'm thinking of mounting my extinguisher in the passenger footwell against the door sill... any other suggestions?

I'm looking at mounting mine behind the passenger seat by running a piece of aluminium flat bar between the bolts at the back of the seat and bolting the extinguisher bracket to that. It sounds similar to whats described by Dominic in this thread, just behind the seat instead of in front. I couldn't find the bolt that duncan was talking about in that thread so maybe 32s don't have it.

I thought about putting it against the door sill behind the passenger seat cause theres a hole already there where the seat belt was originally mounted before compliance but its too hard to reach from the drivers seat.

Hopefully i'll get it mounted tomorrow. If i do i'll upload some photos.

Does a new extinguisher need to be inspected? I bought mine a few weeks ago from Big W and just noticed that theres nothing on it about being inspected. I thought they would need to be inspected before they could be sold. If it needs to be inspected where can i get it done and what should it cost.

In my 32, I have a strip of aluminium between the 2 bolts that hold the front of the seat onto the floor. It works on either side, but mine is mounted on passenger side, because Bride seat frame adjusing handle interferes on driver's side.

Like this:

The bolt at centre-right is the bolt holding down the seat adjacent to the gearbox tunnel. The handle is the seat fore-aft adjuster.

True but you also come out of corners much quicker and with increased grip to the ground you can brake harder without locking a tyre making the pad and rotor absorb more energy...so i suppose it depends on how you drive

Don't think I can fit it there b/c of the transmission lump next to the transmission tunnel on the GTR... hang on I'll take a pic

See the transmission lump at the top of pic

    • Ok glad you clarified on the frenchy’s options , I was worried about if my oem hoses would fit the new compressor or not if I just bought the bracket/compressor kit ,  didn’t realize they also sold a larger full conversion kit. Hmm may just go oem in that case then to make it easy only because I plan to sell this car to upgrade to a 32 GTR or 34 GTT.
    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4
    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
