Don't think I can fit it there b/c of the transmission lump next to the transmission tunnel on the GTR... hang on I'll take a pic

See the transmission lump at the top of pic

I thought about mounting mine in front of the passenger seat but had problems with the transmittion lump and with it not fitting under the seat when the seat slides forward, so it would be harder to get into the back seat. In blink_elk's photo it looks like the lump isn't there, don't all R32s have it?

I mounted mine behind the seat today. In the gtst the seat fits over it fine so the seat still goes back as far as it did before but i think gtr seats are a bit lower so the seat might not be able to slide all the way back in a gtr. I used 25mm x 1mm flat bar but i think 25mm x 3mm would probably be better.

Heres some pics...

So, do i need to get the extinguisher inspected now. The car needs to be ready for the NDSOC training day on the 17th.

Mine's a GTS4, it has the same basic mechanicals as the GT-R under there, so presumably very similar floor pan as well.

tom_g - you might have a problem with getting your setup passed, it may not be deemed "easily accessible" by the scrutineers.

If the passenger seat is pushed as far back as it goes its hard to get to but otherwise its easy to reach. As pic 3 & 4 show with the seat back the extinguisher isn't covered, its only if you push the seat right back that it covers it. I would have thought the extinguisher in front of the seat would be the same cause with the seat moved forward it would be covered. Is it likely to be a problem? What can i do on the day if they dont like it?

I think it would be easier to reach than if it were in the passenger footwell against the door sill where ronin09 was planning on putting his.

Hey blind_elk, i think you may be right that the floorpan is the same. But I think the GTR seats are lower than GTS4 seats, so if I mount the extinguisher there the passenger seat will have to be all the way back all the time...

Is there any issue with putting it on the sill side of the passenger footwell - ie. mounted just below the door opening

Ronin, tom

It's probably going to be more acceptable if the extinguisher can be seen from the seating position, rather than being "hidden" behind something, even if it is actually easier to reach.

The passenger seat doesn't need to be forward at all on the day - use the way I've mounted it as a temporary solution, then take it out afterwards. (I don't have the problem that I need access to the rear seats)

If you plan on carrying the extinguisher permanently - not really a bad idea to have one in the car at all times - then it might be worth drilling holes in the car somewhere, maybe up beside the radio / A/C area on the passenger side. Or mount it behind you, but bring it out for track days. It's a 10(?) minute job to change it over?

You're welcome to call 'round any time and look at my setup, I can even supply the aluminium strip.

Hey snowie thanks for the heads up on tyre pressures. I figured I'd start with about 40psi to start with as that was the setup I used for calder and skidpan days but I thought with the longer lap time etc more heat would be generated inside the tyre and therefore should drop my pressures a little. Anyway will start with 40psi and drop them during the day.....

As for you guys mounting fire ext. the rules state that you must be able to reach and detach the ext from the mounts while in the drivers position. I mounted mine in the passenger footwell against the trans tunnel infront of the passenger seat (R33). From the drivers seat I can reach over and get the ext. when needed.

I think this may have already been covered, but ....

Most of the guys that have done track days tend to mount the ext on the rear seats lower bolt. This bolt is located where a rear passenger's, (behind the front passenger seat) calf muscle would be.

There is only one bolt, but this holds the bracket ok. In this location there will be no problem with moving the seats, and no drilling or bracket creating at all. Also this location can be reached from the drivers seat.

Hope this helps.

when can we pickup roy?

OK found 4 Bridgestone RE540's. Anyone know much about them? I'm sure they will be fine for 1 track day.

Some of these tyres can be recut, if you know where to go. Stuckey's might be a start.

nothing wrong with re540s, they are just a little slower than dunlop formula r...but both are about a second slower than re55s :D
