Hey,

I have the choice out of 3 skylines. The car will be used for track days and sunday drives... basically as a sports car that i can take out every now and then to have a squirt in. I would love it to blow away v8 commodores and most other stuff on the road.

It needs to have low kays and be in excellent and fairly original condition...

My choices are - 1995 r33 GTR vspec - 43000 kays - $46000 - the car is in really good condition and all it has is an exhaust tip

- 1998 r34 skyline GT-T - 18000 kays, like new, absolutely immac and stock, $35000

- 1990-1994 R32 gtr, stock, from about 26-32000 with about 50-70000 kays on it.

My question is, is it worth spending the extra on a r33 gtr vspec over the r32 in terms of speed and reliability.... how does the r32 compare, keeping in mind its a weekend driver.

I was impressed with the r34 gtt, but if i bought it I would be planning to mod it to get it up to GTR power levels...

What do you all think?

Thanks

Mike

well you can drop the thoughts of getting a GT-T when the GTR is also in the picture :D

if it were me: i would get teh R33GTR Vspec mainly because it is newer and if you are spendingf sop much money on a car then make it an immac one

and kms aren't the only measure of the 'newness' of the car. year of build can determine trim quality, paint quality, quality of hoses and other plastic pieces in the engine bay

as much as i prefer the R32 shape over the R33 (adn the R34 over them both) i would have to say R33 GTR Vspec...

good luck with the decision!

Waz.

yeah if its a weekend car take the r32 gtr, like funky said wait for a later model one so its not so tired.

then mod the hell out of it.

But no point starting with something expensive like a 33 if you are going to mod it anyway,

I'd go the 32 - I wanted the 32 (gtst) when looking but got a 33 because of the immaculate condition it was in. I've driven a few 32's and was impressed in the interior layout - small, really neat and functional. My 33 even though a gtst feels much bigger and less nimble. For racing I'd get a 32 - my favourite!

GTT is out of the question with those options... id prefer the R33 GTR but that doesnt seem worth it at that price if its a weekender... i agree with almost everyone else here, the 32 GTR will cause just as much humiliation to the commodores but at a lower price...

If your budget is as big as your suggesting, then wait for the SEVS approval... you could get an 89 GTR under 15 year rule but with your budget its not worth it, a 94 R32 GTR would be best in my opinion

If you want to go to the track and you want to do "reasonably" well - I'd make sure you can afford suspension and sticky tyres in your budget.

But a GTR with suspension, mild performance mods (exhaust, ecu, cam gears) and sticky tires will beat 95% of all cars at a track day.

If this can all be done with the R33 then I'd get that. The 33's just seem to be such a great track car. And with those mild mods still a fantastic street / weekend car.

LOL...too many GTR drivers pu55y foot around in their cars, respect to those that actually drive the wheels off them and get the times out of them.

If that 95% rule is going to hold true you need to throw in a pint of courage, GTRs still oversteer and need to hold onto them as they are pretty heavy cars.

If mech problems wont break the bank and require selling of the car id say R33 GTR

    • That would be interested if it's the case as seems like it would make the job a lot messier but subaru sells OEM gaskets so seems it might of had it.
    • Fuel tank is out. Looks pretty bloody good under (ie above) the fuel tank.  Amazing how good the factory e-coat holds up in the hidden areas.  No where near as much body deadener to get rid of as the front but still not looking forward to it!  Shit of a job.  I'm thinking I might grab a needle scaler and give that a go before I attack it with the angle grinder and wire wheel which is how I did the front 2/3's of the car.  Feels good to be working on the car again but who knows how long it will last!  Hopefully I can get it further forward than where it was prior to this last block of work when I decided to go back 10 steps further down the rabbit hole from where i already was! The problem is, I'm realising how hard it will be to repair and paint the bumpers, which cannot be put back on the car, and have a good paint match. There are also areas where it would be VERY hard to hide the new paint where it transitions from old paint. Like this- There is only one way to do that perfectly and I really dont want to have to do what that means I would have to do... 🤦‍♂️
    • Pretty sure the factory assembly doesn't have any gasket at all, just RTV.
    • I will get a couple cans for sure thanks, I do have 2lt fish oil to spray around the car already.
    • Thought I’d post pics of the packages for those interested. The premium package is #16. Remote start, security with tilt sensor and remote and backup battery, auto fold mirrors and door illumination.    Can post up pics of all the factory options and images from the factory options brochure if people are interested. I have all the dealer books etc for all rv37 models.
