Apparently the cars push 147kw at the flywheel in stock form...

What are these cars capable of with full exhaust, air intake and boost. I understand that they have a ball bearing turbo capable of handling much higher boost that ceramic ones. How much can they handle?

Guess what I'm getting at is these cars would seem to be able to get into low 13 possibly hi 12's with full exhaust, air intake, and a good dose of boost I would assume 14 psi+ (at least more than the standard R33 GTS turbos can handle)? Around 200 rwkw seems possible for less than $2k spent on mods?

but once ur pushing around 200rwkw u would be at the end of the stock turbo's capability i thiink yes?

my mates s14a has the mods mentioned in this thread and is boosted to only 12psi and i would think with a correct launch a 13 flat or there abouts would be possible as the thing really gets going when it comes onto boost. The advantage of having a 150kg odd lighter car i suppose when comparing to a skyline

The previous statement about not all them having BB turbos is simply not true. Don't know where that information came from. I should know, I drive one.

Anyway, yeah S15 are capable of making good power with relatively little $ investment. The big problem is though, once you get up to around 200rwkw, you can pretty much start counting the days untill the gearbox goes BANG! The gearbox is really the only weak link in what is truely a great car.

The 200rwKw gearbox thing is a bit false too... My s15 200sx before I returned it to stock to sell it was making 226.8rwKw at 1.4bar (>20psi) with the standard turbo and standard gearbox and bottom end, and saw quite a few circuit kays with no gearbox dramas at all. I know of a couple of cars that have run more through the standard gearbox with no problems for quite a while. It is a good idea to fit the nismo (or similar) engine and gearbox mounts to take some of the load off them.

For the initial question, with an upgraded fuel system, cams, cooler, computer (and a good clutch) the s15 turbo and internals quite happily make over 200rwKw without a problem at 1.2 bar (>18psi) without a worry. I had that as a daily driver/trackhack for 12 months with no problems at all. With only the computer, cooler, a bigger fuel pump and a full exhaust it was making 196.3rwKw at 1.2bar, but I wouldn't have wanted to push any more out of it at that time. Without cams and decent headers the standard turbo stops doing anything useful after 6200rpm, and at 1.4bar of pressure it is definitely at the limit of what it will make other than heat.

Just depends on how much you want to spend or how serious you are as too how much you get out of them.

Cheers,

Jae.
