R32 GTR - Whitline Shocks and Springs

Recommended Posts

Guest Variable

About a year ago I had the shocks and springs on my GTR replaced with the Whiteline items through Pedders. Everything was going fine until about 3 months ago when driving into the driveway at work (at about 1km/hr) I heard a horrible clunk sound coming from the left rear of the car. Getting in there with a torch, I noticed that the shock had snapped at the top mount. I took the car to Pedders, they got a new shock and I drove away.

About two weeks ago, the same thing happened on the other side.

I have attached photos of the failure as well as of the shock itself.

Neither Pedders, Bilstein or Whiteline seem to have any answers for me as to wh y this has happened.

Can somebody please confirm too, that I have the correct Shock Absorbers?

Hopefully somebody here can shed some light on this for me as I am now afraid that my suspension will collapse at any moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Dirk

From the photographs it appears you have a fatigue failure (progressive cracking) of the shocker shaft at what looks like a thread or other change in section. It's hard to be certain from just a photograph, but the orientation of the cracking suggests a bending load on the shaft - definately not normal. Bilstein/Pedders should do a PROPER investigation - could be improper installation, defective parts or just plain the wrong ones.....
