I tend to use small brackets that screw into the underside of the top section of the bar and then are bent upwards, keeps the plate away from the bar. Works a treat. About 45cents each from bunnings

thats what i did too, except mines side mounted

Hey Guys and Girls;

I solved this problem with the slimline number plate mounts about a month after I got my R33 typeM. What you need to do is duck into a good mountain bike shop and buy your self two Minora water bottle holders and use the stainless steel mounting brackets to mount the plates. The bracket is exactaly the right width for the number plate holes and the bracket bolts straight onto the type M bar mounting the plate right smackbang in the middle of the center bar section that runs in the middle of the large opening of the bar.

Hope this helps

the 'Slimline plates' are a joke IMO. i went to get some today but found they're the exact same width as regular plates (i.e 372mm i think, the slot on my car is only about 350mm) Worst part is the only way to get a shorter width plate is to pay $627 (this is the ACT by the way) for custom plates!

What a joke! you can't have a standard number plate made shorter... and by the way, cutting them is illegal but go figure, the people down at the shopfront had NO IDEA about bent plates. Guess i'm just going to have to bring the plate forward. This is bloody stupid though, they should be able to make the plates shorter instead of stuffing around and paying $627 odd dollars for something i didn't want in the first place.

True they're Japanese plates, but how hard would it be to make our plates 25mm shorter? Honestly? is that too much to ask? obviously it is. one size, unless you want to get custom plates. Why make them slimmer and not shorter? that makes no damn sense.
