Suspected Problem : Faulty Coil Pack ? ? ?

At hi revs usually 5500+ start to get back fireing and lack of performance.

Pulled all 6 coil packs out, inspected them all, put them back in, whilst doin that pulled all 6 sleevs out and inspected them at the same time, proceeded to put them all back in, took for a drive, problem fixed... temporally. Been driving since then and stated to happen again. Can anyone suggest anyways to test individual coil packs anyways besides pulling out one by one and swapping over wit a new one... anyways with a multi meter?

All replies & help would be appreciated.. hate to see my car being sick all the time ;)

There are a few threads on faulty coil packs in this forum where people have used electrical tape to seal up micro cracks in them. These cracks were the issue... as far as testing them goes, i have no idea but a search should yeild more.

Are you running standard boost? I had the same problem with mine and thought it was coil packs. It was actually the spark plugs, got them replaced and regapped to 0.7.

When i turned the boost up got a similar problem but that was due to running to rich and too much timing. Hope this helps.

Steve

I've read through a lot of coil pack problem threads and i have a question - i am experiencing popping up at high revs on 1 bar boost, it was fine but it started happening all of a sudden. It happens over 5500 rpm, under load - the popping happens a couple of times per second. My mate had the same problem and took it somewhere and they replaced all his coil packs. What i was wondering is to identify the problem coil packs - is it safe to unplug one, take the car for a run and see if the popping stops? That way i could see which coil pack(s) are to blame?

Just a thought.
