well .. I got pulled over on Saturday night.

Coming back from my folks place in Ocean Reef, decided to do a lap of Northbridge. Got off the freeway at James Street, went through the lights, as soon as I get near Russell Park (Where our indiginous brethren live) and a cop car was on the side of the road, both cops out, one was checking another car, the other cop runs in to the middle of the road, his little orange anal plug (torch?! :() shining at me.

I pull over, get out of the car, and this is pretty much what transpired:

"Good evening sir, have you had anything to drink tonight"

I've had one beer.

"Please blow in to this (no Paul, he did not pull down his pants!)"

Blow.

"Ok sir, now, your exhaust, that's a yellow sticker waiting to happen. Is that the standard exhaust?"

No, thats how it came from Japan.

"Do you have the original exhaust?"

Nope.

"Well, you're lucky I'm busy tonight, but make sure you get it checked out, that's definately a yellow sticker waiting to happen"

"Actually, let me see your intercooler. Most of the time they're stuck on with chewing gum or plumbing supplies"

"Yeah, that seems fairly secure"

Yep, I've had it bolted on to the chassis.

"Wheres your intercooler?"

Well, you can't see it from the engine bay as it is the stock intercooler, you need to look under the passenger headlight.

"Wow, that's a bright light. Your intercooler looks alright. Have a good night, but get that exhaust checked".

Thank you sir, have a great weekend.

Jason.

Hahaha, better than my short drive thru leederville the other night :(

Yellow stickers suit white cars I think, basically got done for mods and no permits. Meh, You get that......

P.S. Anyone got a spare cat? *nudge jason*

yeah, I'm an oldschool perthy, so I know its a bad thing to cruise northbridge, but when you live in East Perth, it's either that or the tunnel, and I wanted to see what was out and about :(

Yeah, it was good, but I guess the moral of my story was, I didn't give any lip, I was respectful and wasn't a prick to him.

I think a lot of the younger guys could learn from that. No need to get narky and in their face. If they act like a prick, doesn't mean you have to either.

Jason.

kym, yeah man, I'm collecting the cat from Ronnie on Tuesday, or possibly Wednesday, will give you a buzz once it's in my grubby little hands :)

make sure you've got plenty of beer in the fridge when I come by to drop it off :(

too true

just wondering when aftermarket exhausts/mufflers became illegal? my bro got done for his exhaust not because of the dB but because of the "size" as far as i was aware it was only if ur exhaust note exceded a certain dB limit that you could receive a sticker for it?

Only ever been pulled over once. Was coming back from the compliance workshop with my 32 GTR (hadn't been over the pits yet so not registered and no number plates) and was driving it under one of those temporary work permits or whatever they are called.

Saw a police station wagon coming towards me and watched him in the mirror, sure enough he does a u turn and drives up behind me whilst I'm stuck at lights. Light goes green I turn left, he follows and turns on the lights. I kept driving a bit till I could turn down a side street and pull over.

5 uniformed coppers get out of this car. First one says I was pulled over because a skyline was stolen in a house robbery earlier that day. I then said the reason why I dont have plates on the car is because it's not registered and I'm driving on a temporary permit. They said what is a temporary permit. I pulled out the bit of paper I had the permit # written on and showed it to them. Bottom line was that they had no record of it and had to ring DPI to get them to check it on their system. All was ok after about 10 minutes on the phone whilst on of the 5 coppers pulled out a little card and checked the tint which was that typical japanese cant see out of the car in the middle of the day stuff, I told him it was coming off before it was going over the pits.

Long story short no dramas and came away unscathed.

Thursday about 8:30pm, after late night shopping at Garden City doing bang on 60 (missus + shopping in car) up Riseley St. Patrol car doing 70 or so comes up behind me, sits up my arse for half a k b4 the lights came on. Strange really, it was like he was chasing me but then couldn't make his mind up about pulling me over. When he did, both cops got out, wandered around the car for a couple of minutes after checking my license then said have a nice night and buggered off. If I didn't know the car was a fresh import when I bought it, I'd have thought they were checking it wasn't stolen. Have had no tickets/defects/contact with fuzz at all in the year I've had the car so I don't see my plates ringing any alarm bells. Weird. Still, reinforces the idea of keeping it subtle mods-wise & being pleasant to the boys in blue :kick:

    • I was once told, who it was I'm to old to remember, that the length of the OEM wheels brace supplied with a vehicle is designed long enough for a average person to apply enough torque to do up, and undo the wheel nuts to the specified torque  What a average person is is anyone's guess though, i.e. average fat bastard, average knuckle head, average perfect sized human......like me Unless of course, a tyre shop has ugga dugga'd them up to "torque to yeild/strip" specs, used cross threading as natures lock tight, or a big breaker bar was used to tighten them up to get some nice stretch in the poor old wheel studs Me, I torque wheel nuts to 1 elbow joint click, lower torque settings are based of wrist clicks, higher torque settings are based of shoulder clunks, or total dislocation for anything that requires all of the torques
    • I think the catch can design is pretty flawed. Evident in the fact that the V2 one moved to a larger top mounted filter which alone would have helped with overflow and reduce restrictions compared with the side filter. I also imagine there was a major improvement to the baffling design. It is worth mentioning that this catch can with the RB20 was never as much of an issue and the high kms RB25 is likely a part of the problem. I have gotten quotes for both a new "Vibrant Gen 3" catch can and to modify this existing ones but that may have to wait until after the track day. I hope the sump/head breathers/drains and cam splash plates will be enough
    • Yep, both. The ratio is 1.8 instead of OEM being 1.7. The rocker bodies are modified with a larger bolt hole and re-threaded with 10mm holes instead of the 8mm YT has stock. Finding out they don't actually fit the stock castings cause a lot of un-impressment by the person in the USA who tapped the new holes for the 'upgraded' YT product. He was very unhappy with them given their previous design did not require 'clearancing'
    • That too, but I think this is why she's put the work into the cam cover baffles. I mean, a catch can should only need to be a catch can, not an oil air separator also. Not to say that putting the effort into having it do a better job of oil-air sep is a waste of time, but doing the sep earlier is always going to make life better. And that should happen now anyway.
    • I think both. Higher ratio and more stout. I think at least part of his lift increase came from the rocker.
