Normally i wouldnt look twice at a copy of street machine but I had to come back for another look after I noticed a Mitsubishi Magna on the front cover of the latest issue.

It looks hot. The car has been dumped on some very deep dished chrome rims has been converted into a two door coupe with suicide doors and has a COME 404Ci V* under the bonnet. It has been designed with some consultation with Mitsu Oz who want to get more young drivers into their cars and think that this may hekp.

The audio visual gear is all sony as the car is being used as an xplod demo car for shows like auto salon and street machine shows. There is about 16 speakers and I think 4 or 5 subwoofers in the car as well as the usual array of lcd screens and so forth.

I must say for a magna which i normally find to be very plain and boring (dont like the new nose of the car) it looks damn sexy.

If you see the car at any shows its worth a look

ill proably get flamed for saying a magna looks sexy but oh well let the flaming begin sigh :flamed:

:D

they began the build a few years back with a brand new bodyshell from the previous model but when mitsu announced the new model they replaced the front and rear with the new bits and the interior is custom anyway with the dash bearing a very minor resemblance to the normal dash its in a bright red with some small but tasteful orange flames along the top of the rear quarters.

nah this ones a show special using a holden (aww damn i said a swear word :) ) built by Daryl McBeth whos one of the more famour aussie street rod builders.

This car has more chrome on the underbody than the entire silverware section at david jones :) the bonnet and boot have been changed to hinge in the opposite directions and the coolest feature i have seen is the tiny little racing mirros that also act as the door handles (press them down to open the suicide doors).

They have slammed the car too this thing is soooo low i dont know how its possible to drive it anywhere which could explain the airbag suspension set up. The twin 3.5 inch exhausts exiting out of the centre of the rear bumper look the part too.

I will try and post the pics when i get home for you guys who are interested but wont be home till about 11:30 WA time sorry (i hate late night trading :D )

yea i remember selling this at the melbourne motor show few years ago in bare metal .....and it lookd horn then .....aesome that its complete now ....might buy this issue.. havent bought one in like years ..

Thats it for now who could think that you could do this to a magna woot! :D

i think mitsu needs a V8 or a turbo or both :headspin:

if they want to attract a younger crowd of drivers to magna they need to show some of the rally bred spirity of the magna ie AWD turbo etc

and if they want to compete with the locals a v8 verada might be the go i am sure somewhere in the mitsu world garage there is a v8 hiding somewhere waiting to be boganised :D

ok heres the pic as promised

aybee the exhausts are not ricey at all just two round pipes coming out at the back in the middle have been done this way to improve flow not like those silly square lancer ones they dont come out of the middle of the bumper i guess i worded that a little weird all they have done is trimmed a groove out of the bootm of the lip of the bumper to accomodate the tips which come out then angle down at 90 degrees

bring on the 3.5 turbo :headspin:

:D

sorry about the quality of the pic couldnt find one on the net and dont have a scanner so i used my digi cam and took a pic of the poster

yeah its not bad at all for a magna anyway

shows you can make even the most boring cars look good tho i suppose

i saw it today... spent 15 minutes reading article at the newsagency without buying the magazine. The dude behind the counter was giving me an angry look for some reason.

At first i thought it was a verada coz of the verada lights, the exhuast looks good too.

I didnt like the suicide door idea but i guess it had to be done if you rip out the backseats and put in 4 subs... no point with 2 more traditional doors.

The thing i hated about it was the console, just the sony HU stuck in it, i understand that its a showcar but that was a total waste of space.

Sound system looked sweet and the chrome gave it the look.

Overall, very nice :D

    • Latest round of updates on the car. I purchased and installed a SWS clutch slipper to help with 60ft times and got some second-hand good condition 275/40R17 Hoosier DR2 radials. Test and tune in November showed the tyres were an upgrade over my over 15 year old mickey Thompson's and I got a 1.8 second 60ft and pb et of 11.71 but even then, that run wasn't great due to rain and driver error (the event got called off 10 minutes later fast forward to the weekend just gone 25th of Jan and there was finally a break in the weather to let racing happen. The first run the track was slippery and only managed a 12.1@129 Second run the track was better and got a new pb et and mph: 11.54@131   Lith and I then worked out that I installed the previously mentioned clutch slipper incorrectly and its never been working, and I had just been dumping the clutch the entire time, we also noticed it was on street boost and not race boost. So I lined up for a third run with the car turned up in the first two gears, but the passengers side axle objected to clutch dumps and left the chat which stopped my weekend.   so there will be another attempt in the future once I replace the tyres as they rubbed and are stuffed now. but a low 11 should be on the cards.
    • Ceramic coating and heat shielding, you mean?
    • Turbos don't require pulling the motor apart so that's "easier". I would recommend the Nismo R3 turbos instead if you want to do stock twin turbo. It doesn't make as much power as the 2530s but it's only like ~50 whp off the mark and should have better response (ball bearing CHRA, slightly smaller turbo). A local that went with a Garrett G30 and 6boost manifold recently nearly burned his car to the ground after the hood insulator started melting and and burning so if you go single turbo I recommend doing a lot of research and validation work to make sure you don't do the same.
    • New rear lights, filler panel sprayed, cleaned and back together    before, during, after shots 😍
    • 100% is gyprock, I agree. Slip of the keyboard. Haha! I left my indicator bulbs out to save a bit of weight.
