I've been told that i have to use S14 hubs on my s13 for the R32 brake conversion.

These are quite difficult to find. Does anyone know if r32 hubs can be used? It seems kinda odd that nissan would use different hubs on the s14 and r32's when nearly all the braking components are interchangable.

Hope you gys can help me with this!

you could possibly use them 4 to 5 stud converters you can pick up for around $200 then use R33 GTSt discs and calipers. Might need to check that your rims fit and don't rub or anything though. Will give you good stopping power.

Failing that get the massive brakes off a laurel or a cima :D

I've done the conversion, I just got new slotted DBA rotors for an r32 and had them drilled for an S13. I'm having to use longer bolts and 2x 6mm spacers on each side, so that the crap offset rims i have can clear the calipers.

This creates some slight wheel shake that is only noticable around the 110kph mark. But i dont go out of town much to reach them speeds, its only temp untill i get these hubs on. I have 2x r32 gtr wheels for the back and some gts-t wheels for the front.

No, you can't use any of the r32 hub components. Your options are to either use the s14 gear (hard to find and expensive), use 4 to 5 stud bolt on spacers, or get some custom hubs such as the ones available from http://www.option1garage.com.au under 'drift bits'.

the way you'va gone about it seems to be the most cost effective as i'm about to do the same to my old r30 skyline using the s-13 hubs and redrilled gts-t rotors and just bolt on the calipars, i gather your wanting to go 5-stud as the new rims you mentioned are all 5-stud. jms did have 4-5 stud changing spacers at some point for sale they were something like $600 for all 4 corners..

I've been doing alot of searching, getting prices etc. I'm going back to the shop that drilled the discs for me and see if he is able to modify the original S13 hubs. The 4/5 bolt hubs you can buy from option1garage are $250 each. Too expensive I think, I know they are well made, but come on you can buy sets of wheels for $500. If the shop cant/wont do it, ill have to get them i suppose.

For the rear end, i'm going to go to the length of swapping spindles and hubs with 300zx items. I've read that the uprights on the 300zx are aluminium, saving quite abit of weight. But the mounts for the rear struts are different, requiring you to use Z struts. Bugger.

Is there any way i can attach some pics to my posts?

Or do i have to link to them?

Hey sorry to throw this a little off topic but does anyone know if the later model skyline hubs bolt onto hr31 import struts? I'm just about to complete my front brake upgrade and with r32 stuff and would like to change it to 5 stud if i can.

I've also been looking at those s13 hubs on option 1 garage and cant help but wonder if you could find someone/somewhere to make them up cheaper then that. The custom hubs would also be nice if your current wheels didn't clear the caliper.

I know the rear will need z31 turbo hubs but i can wait to do that when i find some.

Also whats the min offset you can run with the 4pots if anyone knows?

Thanks

John

If ypu got the 300zx info from an old post of mine, then im able to fax over the info to you ...if you like

I've got in contact with the guy who redrilled my discs. Hes informed me that to redrill my S13 hubs to change from4x114.3 to 5x114.3 is quite simple. The spline that holds the bolts in and stops them from moving is created by pressing the bolts into the hubs.

He charges about $20 per hour, he said it will take him about 3 hours.

I'll allow for $80 worth of labour just in case.

$500 for new hubs, or $80 to modify the old ones.. hard choice..

    • Because that’s not what any of them are building these heads or blocks for. It’s to hold over over 1000hp at the wheels without breaking and none of that stuff is required to make power

    • It makes you wonder, all these people starting to make a billet replacement head, I wonder if any have thought about trying to adapt tech from newer engines into them. You're already at the full design stage to make a billet head... Why not really spice it up and had some more modern tech into the mix too...
    • Connect all the plumbing up properly. The actual worst part about having the turbo unable to actually build boost, is you can and likely would over soon the turbo if you drove the car (free rev while stationary isnt likely to manage it).   If you do have an air leak as Duncan suggested, you'll have a bad time as the AFM will be saying different to reality.   As you have had the engine out, I'd go over all electrical connections again. If you have a consult cable, plug it in, and see what the ECU thinks is going on. Did you touch the timing belt? If so, double check your timing on the gears is correct AND put a timing light on it while it's idling and see what ignition setting you have. Is the AFM you've installed the one that was in the car previously? You said you replaced seals, what seals exactly? What have you had apart?   From memory when I had my RB25DET with factory throttle, there was two plugs the TPS plug on the loom could go to. One would leave the car running like shit, the other made it work, I think one plug on the TPS area was for something else (an option). It's too many years since I saw that part of the loom to remember properly though.   Is the car idling smooth (as smooth as an RB can)? Does it smell fuelled up?   I have a feeling either timing in timing belt is off, or a sensor isn't right.
    • Theres still skid pan and motokhana days up in QLD at least that are $100 or less. The ones that are ran as "driver training" less so, they're expensive, but just normal skid pan days like SAU ran are still low cost. And thats one of the places I learned to be a lariken, purely by asking for passenger rides, and how people were doing crazy things. Reese gave me plenty of pointers back in the day for skid pan! And yes Duncan, I will never forget your pointers for track work. Especially after Neil got out saying "I am NEVER getting in the car with him again!" 😛
