rb20det wont start help!!

Recommended Posts

OK my engine wont start!!

Heres the deal. I came home from school it drove fine all day. Took a nap then my buddies came over to check out my car. I tried to start it up but NOTHING...it cranks over fine it just wont fire.

Here's some things that I KNOW work..

-Fuel pump turns on

-engine starter cranks

-battery is fine

-coil packs OK tested at .9 ohms each

-spark plugs clean and OK

-compression tested FINE 147,147,145,149,152,150 PSI

it doesnt even sound like it wants to start it just keeps cranking...i think its not getting spark...i am thinking the control module (power transistor unit) thing on top of the spark plug cover is bad. I went to autoparts store for the 300zx one but they dont have in stock and its over $200..Do you guys think this is a problem?? Is there anyway i can test it?

This sucks because its my daily driver and i wont have a car to drive until its fixed!!

Thanks!!

Tony

take a screwdriver... unbolt the PTU attached to your engine's rocker cover... look at it... laugh a little, throw it away... buy a replacement PTU, then plug it in. Your car should start...

worked for me, and my car was doing the exact same thing.

Also what year is your car (or should I say engine)? Mine's an 1993 R32 and it uses the same PTU as a GTR and early model R33 GTSt, its significantly different to the Z32 one (which is the same as an A31 PTU, I found this out because I tried to swap the PTU off my 89 A31's RB20 into my 93 R32 and the sockets were incompatible).

I paid AU$20 for a mate to give me his spare one :D

If you are getting spark, then the CAS is working.

Do you have power to the Injectors? This is usually direct battery 12V (via relay), and the ECU switches them to provide open / close.

What ECU are you using?
