Hey guys - I'm looking at buying one of these at the moment. The interior room seems to be adequate and the power is good.

Just wondering if the 4 door is a lot harder to get parts for. I realise the 4 door is the same basic shape as the 2 door.

If some vandal smashes a side window am I going to be up the creek or are parts plentiful enough. A mechanic I was talking to ( a good one) reckons they're good cars just the parts thing is a worry (moreso than say a early to mid 90s soarer..toyota).

Lights and body panels are they really expensive?

ANy experiences and costs of parts that you've had to buy would be great to get an indication. THis will be my first real car (A mazda 929 before and a corollla currently), I realise this will cost more for parts, insurance, fuel etc, but don't want it to drain all my funds and be a burden.

Until the flood of 15 year vehicles, these were actually fairly rare. Might be hard to find replacement doors and the like compared to the coupes which are maybe 90-95% of the R32 out there.

Front end is basically going to be the same, but the rear could prove more difficult - but then again, there are a heap of import specialist wreckers out there who could probably source them for you. Just would take time.

Thanks predator - fair call. Are the importers usually pretty fair? Like how much would a door normally go for or a rear light. Do they milk you if they have to order it in?

I would have thought the parts availability would be about the same as the soarer? ANy thoughts. I do rather the skyline for my needs at the moment.

So you don't think you should worry about it too much. 4 door would be ok you think?

I just don't want to regret my decision if I do decide to get one. I wouldn't care if it took time to get the parts, just don't want them to be too expensive ..

Also - do Nissan stock any parts for the Skylines?? If so are they reasonably priced?

There are a lot of import parts specialists out there that are obviously making a good amount off some of the parts, buy a container of stuff for a few $k, sell them for many times more.. but they have to make money after all. Sometimes its a joke what they ask , sometimes you have to shop around and can get it for 1/2 the price.

In my old R33 I was fairly lucky most of the time - got a front guard for like $125.. door trim $75, door for $300 when i needed them. That is as cheap as you'd get them for a VR commodore probably.

Of course the R33 is the most popular import you see on the road (soarer maybe 2nd??) so parts for them can be a little easier. Just speaking from R33 perspective, you can get headlights for like $300 or so each (probably what it would cost for any 1994 part for like a Honda, etc), and most things are a couple of hundred at most.

Nissan can get most parts and have the parts number database to tell you various useful things :cheers:, but they tend to get most of their stuff from overseas at big $$ and large waits from whenever i have tried. They do stock some parts on shelf, but really depends whether they are the same parts as some of the locally sold models (some stuff is shared). Engine parts are easy as their is a lot of RB engines out there (especially RB20det) in a number of different imports, and also a fair bit of knowledge these days.

Well that is probably all I know ;)

There are plenty of R32 owners out there that can probably be more useful, as i am just speaking in general terms here.

Cheers Predator - you've been a lot of help. I would like to hear from R32 owners like you say...however, the price you have got your things for sounds decent. Was $300 for a headlight the new price from Nissan?

I wonder how expensive the doors would be for a 4 door skyline due to their limited no. ..hopefully won't need too many parts if I get lucky and drive sensibly (and other drivers dont hit me).

I've owned a 4 door R32 for a couple of years. Anything that is in common with the coupe is available at a reasonable price. From my experience import wreckers can supply most bolt on sedan panels but the interior trim parts that differ from the coupe are very hard to come by. This is because they disassemble (chop up) the cars in Japan and couldn't be bothered removing the trim.

I also own a 4 door and agree with what Booster said, although thankfully I haven't had to try and find parts for it yet (touch wood).

Before I bought it I also looked into how available parts are for the car and though they may be limited, there are also limited 4 doors on the road, so it kind of works out even..... if that makes sense??

Besides, a good part of the car is common with the coupe... There is also ALOT of places that deal with import parts and panels these days, perhaps try calling them and seeing how much different parts are and how easily you could get them...

Thanks guys. The 4 door sounds a little harder than the 2 door but hopefully won't need too many bits. I wonder whether power window motors etc are interchangable etc. It sounds like the parts can be had at a reasonable price etc if you're not in a huge hurry.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Are the R32 as easyu to get parts for as an R33, which predator was talking about. THanks a lot!

Im 17 and have an R32 4 door. I make hardly any money so im sure you can finance one.

Headlights were $250 for the both of them.

Indicators were $150 for both.

Basic parts arn't overly hard to obtain.

    • Not R7R. Meant to type R&R, obviously enough.
    • Bugger "making it look stock". I put one conventional internally fused Hella relay behind each globe. I just pulled the plugs off the back of the globes and built new loom segments with male and female plug parts to match up to the original loom and the globe, and used the original power wires to each globe coming from the switch through the original loom plug to trigger the relays. Ran a big fat (also separately fused) power wire across the front of the car to feed all the relays. It's as ugly as f**k, but it is wedged down between the headlight and battery on the RHS and the airbox and headlight on the LHS, and no-one ever looks in my engine bay, and on the odd occasion that they do I simply give no f**ks for what they think. Fully reversible - not that you'd ever want to. For f**k's sake. It's a Skyline. They made million of the bloody things. We've been crashing them into roadside furniture for 30 years now. There is a negative side effect to putting relays on the headlights. The coil current is too little to properly clean the contacts in the switches and they get blacked up and you have to open them up every couple of years and clean them manually. I have 25 years of experience on this point.
    • I was poking through the R34 wiring diagrams vs R33 and noticed that the R34 has proper headlight relays while the R33 is like the R32 and sends full headlight power through the headlight switch. I'm not afraid of wiring but I really would like to do this in a way that looks OEM (clipping into open positions on the OEM relay box) and also unlike the factory wiring which interlocks the high beam and low beam on the halogen series 1 GTR headlights I want to make it such that turning on the high beams keeps the low beams on as well. Any advice on how to locate the specific connectors + crimp terminals + relays I need? I was thinking one NO relay for low beams and another for combined high + low running off the factory high beam headlight connector. I don't really want to splice into a crusty old probably discontinued factory harness so fully reversible is my goal here.
    • Pretty sure they run the same engine as the Q50 hybrid which specifies 95 RON.  I ran 98 in mine for a while, but it made no difference in performance or economy, so I have been using 95 for the last few years.  I have never hit 6.0L/100km, but have returned mid to high 6 on the highway.  Being a hybrid, fuel economy is a lot more dependant on how you drive it.  At 110km/h, mine never goes into EV mode on the highway, so returns closer to 7.5L/100. urban driving can return low 8s if you are careful or over 10 if you are a bit more enthusiastic on the throttle.
    • About a quarter of what you want to do. It's only R7R, not R&dismantle&replaceparts&reassemble&R. ? It is stock. I already told you, you will NOT have broken those. It's f**king 4th gear for Christ's sake. You just chipped the teeth off.
