Well, I went to the drags with the intention of running into the 13's. Unfortunately for every import or fast four (wrx's) there was about 3 trevs. This meant about 20-30 minutes between each run, then some poor guy blew his engine on the strip and dumped oil all over it. So in the 2.5hrs I was there I had 4 runs. Best time of 14.506 with a terminal speed of 103.09mph (165.90kph). So whats going wrong, with that terminal speed I should be doing a mid 13-high 13 (say 13.7, which my mate did on a simular terminal speed in his 180sx). Well for starters the track sure as hell didnt feel as grippy tonight. I need wider tyres (possibly something more grippy, although the ceat's that I have are fairly grippy), some more suspension bits on the rear end (I think the diff craddles are loose as well, getting axel tramp, will probably just over-tighten them to be sure) and I definately need a better clutch, probably a twin plate setup (the stock one was slipping and I couldnt launch very hard at all. My 60 foot time was crap 2.616 seconds. If I fix the clutch and get some better tyres I'd say it would pull a 13.7 quite easily. So all I've done is;

1). 3.25" cat back system (no resonator's, straight through... loudish but more HP)

2). Blitz dual sbc boost controller (set for 0.6 bar and 0.8 bar. the runs tonight were on 0.8bar, I wanted to do a run @ 0.6 bar to see if I could get faster with less power and more traction perhaps, but wasnt going to wait another 20-30minutes to run again)

3). pod filter. HKS super power flow thingy, the green one. Flows the best, only good for stopping bricks being sucked into the engine.

So really I've done basic mods to the car so far, but with the right clutch and tyres I should pull a 13 easily. Just shows you guys out there with 300+ rear wheel HP and running in the 13's you'd be best spending some money on your suspension setup than searching for more HP and the guys with little done to their cars it shows you dont need to spend big $$$ to run a quick car. Between the boost controller and the exhaust there is about $2.5k fitted and tuned (all brand spankers).

hey rob what colour is yours? i was there last night some interesting runs...

but what the **** was with that blue subaru? looked like it was a rex had a zorst, but then it ****ing did a 24.something???

surely even a ****ing RX would do 18 or something?? anyone else see that?

everyone knows skylines have traction issues, in reality i think the time you got may be a little slow but not far off the mark

i dont think youll get into the 13s with those mods. maybe with an SAFC or some kind of management, then some suspension work. but at the moment id be happy with a low-mid 14

rob, as said you'll need to do some suspension, then maybe not try and get your time by going sideways down the track :) and I'm pretty certain (from the skylines that I've seen down there) you'll need a couple more mods to get your 13

hehehe, 13.7 is outta da question ;) :burnout:

happy birthday by the way ;)

Wow thats a great terminal rob, 103MPH!

I can see why you are going to have problems hitting 13s , and no it isn't because you don't have enough performance mods in your engine bay. It's because you have 195 16inch el-cheapo tyres!

103MPH with a better 60" and 13s are there for sure.

2.3 was grandenko's 60'' to run a 13.8 @ 166km/hr, I think Maka ran a 13.9 with a similar terminal and a 60' of 2.5?

You just have to stop driving on the razor blades.:)

Psiko you've got no idea mate. Look at my terminal speed, the car is going fast enough to equate to a 13.7 second pass without a problem, my traction and clutch are letting me down. I will be scanning my timesheet so all you non-believer's can go FOAD.

Rob

I went last night as well but didn't do very well :) I think maybe the track was slippery, it didn't feel like that last week.

I just kinda spun thru most of the gears up the track and the best I managed was a couple of 13.9s.

Last week I got a 13.7 which I was really happy with, so yeah, kinda disappointed with my efforts last night...

and I'll bump up the ratio, for every import there was 4 or 5 trevs... I managed 6 runs last night, but the bulk of them were at the very end when they'd all left.

Last week there were less ppl dragging, which was good ;)

Rob

Troy is running an AFC whereas you're not.

He's probably running with 40kw more than your car.

Without either a lot more power or a lot of work in the traction department you will not see 13.7

I hope you can prove me wrong and I'll be the first to congratulate you.

Then I can FOAD whatever the hell that means:)

okay i'll set some things striaght.

my 14.01 was with 10psi, pod filter, cat back exhaust and bit more timing. (power of car was 170rwhp)

my best with the safc is a 14.15 with 9psi, pod filter, cat back exhaust and bit more timing. (power of car was 215 rwhp)

me thinks its all to do with grip and driving technique.

what rpm do u launch at?

what rpm do u change gears at?

do you know the power curve of your car?

these all affect your time.

I was launching at 2500rpm with the clutch slipping. 1st gear was useless, clutch wouldnt bite properly and the engine was revving hard to 7000rpm, 2nd to 3rd @ 6500, 3rd to 4th 6500. The car hasnt been dyno'd yet with the new boost settings (by me anyway). I would have liked to run at 0.6bar, probably have less traction problems but terminal speed would be slower I feel. But needless to say by the end of the 1/4 mile the terminal speed is extremely high.

I'm not saying I'm a non-believer at all

what I am saying is, if you get a 13.7 with the mods you have I will personally eat the shit that's coming out of your mouth

reason for nasty post - I don't like being told to f off and die (FOAD) for no reason

so calm down

    • Yeah, my moulds and seals are 32 years old now. I think I will continue to not use a pressure washer on it.
    • I hear the old "I'd never use a pressure washer on my motorbike" BS in the dirtbike community too.  The only people that have had a problem from using a pressure washer on anything are the people that aren't using them properly.  If you hold the wand any more than 45 cms away from pretty much anything (radiators, wiring connectors, paint, etc) you aren't going to cause any damage.  We've had detailers wreck moulds and seals on cars at work before and the only reason why is they held the pressure washer too close and on the one spot for too long.  If you have 5% more brain power than a detailer then you know not to not do that and you'll never have a problem.
    • I'm pretty much healed up post surgery so I spent another almost full day out in the shed re-arranging everything to make room for all of the shit that I've taken off the car.  I need to get everything off the floor and away from the car for when I start making a massive mess stripping off the remaining body deadener and then for the the painting process.  Almost got the shed to a point now where I feel I can actually start working on the car again (clean shed clean mind or something!).  Almost 11 years of accumulated car parts, building supplies, tools, junk, etc have taken a long time to get in some sort of order again!  Most stuff is now boxed up and in the back shed if it's not car related.  Most people would still be horrified walking into my shed but it's significantly better than it was before!   For those that saw my separate post the other day, yeah I ordered one.... This version- I convinced myself to stop being a clown, wake up to yourself and realise it will take you 5 weeks to make one by which stage you're over working on the car again...  Maybe I am getting on top of my "mental ailments" and making smarter choices.... $1450 delivered which will take my miserable half-dutch arse a few days to get over having spent that much!  If I don't have a use for it straight away after my car is off it I might even see if there is a "rental market" for them.  See if anyone wants to hire it for a period of time.  $25 a week or something like that.  I'll worry about that when my car is actually ready to come off it though as that might be a while away!! There's now no excuses now for not ending up with an underside you could eat off! Away for kids sport the next few weekends so hopefully can get the rotisserie assembled ready to go for the car to go straight on it the next available weekend.
    • I always use my Karcher, but it's only a little one that I picked up from Supercheap  The only issue I ever had with a pressure washer was when I was a kid cleaning coaches, they had a hi-po industrial sized petrol jobbie that would strip paint if you got to close I saying this, we have a fairly high power washer at work with a diesel powered heater that sprays water at about 60°c, it works great for removing old wax and road grime on the underbody after some foam cannon action, albeit from a "stand off" distance of a few feet
    • Sorry no - The sandtrap adventure ended the day, happened at the end of the last session. At that time I wasn't hearing any weird noises nor were the brakes shuddering anymore. It was only when watching the videos that I remembered I had these sounds early on!
