Sandown Driver Training - 17th October.

Hey guys,

The anual NDSOC driver training day at Sandown is on again on Sunday October 17th. This is really a MOTORSPORT driver training day and the emphasis will be on skills for a race track.

You will need a CAMS L2S or higher to attend plus all of the usual track day gear (helmet, fire extinguisher, etc - read the sup regs for full requirements)

I would recommend this day to anyone out there thinking of doing some track days in the future that has little or no track experience. Not only will you learn the basics racing lines etc of a race track but these guys will stop you learning bad track habbits - such as engaging gears too early. This can be a real synchro killer! LOL

The best part is the price - $85. I can tell you a similar day through places like Jim Murcott are over $300.

But it is a first in best dressed arrangement so if you are interested get your forms in early.

Damn, I already put my name down for the masterati day which is the following weekend... I'm too nervous to take the 'line racing TWO weekends in a row....if I bust something on this day I probably won't be ready for the 24th!!!!

Whats the go with the CAMS L2S license???

I have done the murcotts level 1 driving course recently and planned to do the high performance driving course later this year.

Is this day the same as a winton fun day?? or is it a formal high performance driver training day??

The day will be divided into a number of sessions to cater for all levels of motoring enthusiasts:

· Firstly, novices will be to shown around the circuit by experienced

race drivers and given guidance as to braking points and correct lines.

· Then follows a session for novices only where they may drive their

own vehicles with an instructor in the passenger seat.

· The circuit will then be opened for all vehicles to circulate.

· Then, prior to lunch, a half hour passenger session will be held

where drivers may take one passenger for tours of the circuit.

· The afternoon will then be almost a repeat of the morning.

She has stated that this is not a 100% day. It is a training day. I really recommend this if you havent been on a track before. Most sprint days you will be expected to go hard from the start - this is a perfect no pressure oportunity to get the feel of it all.

Adz.....fair enough but think of it this way....if I stuff up on the 24th having been on the training day I'll have no excuses......this way at least I can blame something "Damn should have gone on that training day......" ......LOL :P

3.1 All vehicles must be either road registered or eligible for road registration. RACE VEHICLES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE. RACE TYRES OR SLICKS ARE NOT PERMITTED.

this sucks arse... mine doesnt fall under either category :P

its not registered and it isnt eligible for road rego.... unless rally permit counts?

3.1 All vehicles must be either road registered or eligible for road registration.  RACE VEHICLES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.  RACE TYRES OR SLICKS ARE NOT PERMITTED.

It may have changed but it used to be the case that the car didn't have to be registered, but needed to be roadworthy and no slicks. I certainly trailered my Z there one year before I got CH reg. I'm hoping to get there for the first time in a couple of years.

Note also there's a 75dB driveby limit strictly imposed by the local council. They take their measurements using a hand held metre at about the middle of the main straight (they usually stand on the concrete apron between the end of the pits and the main stand).

Also CAMS licences will be available on the day, or that is usually the case. I'll be helping in some way, probably scrutineering.

I have sent my application form to CAMS today for LS2 licence. How long wil it take to get the licence approved? Will I make it in time? I shuold have the car registered and so on by then.

Q. Is it worth while getting the CAMS handbook @ $40+ ?

Q. When do you need payment and attendence conformation by?

I went to CAMS on thursday to renew my licencs (expires 30/9) and they advised I should have the new one well before the event. I believe that licences will also be available on the day, but check with the NDSOC to be sure (Greg: if you read this please confirm). As indicated you also need to be a member of a CAMS affiliated club.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the CAMS book, but it can be useful if your planning on doing some actual races.

The max entries for the event is 120 - I'd get in early to be sure.
