Upgrade time, Turbo or Power FC

Recommended Posts

Its time to upgrade, nothing to expensive, im looking at a second hand HKS 2530,2535 or a Power FC. Im sure the turbo is going to give me the best bang for buck results so im thinking this way at the moment.

I tune the car myself via the SAFC2, and last dyno tune we where pushing out 207rwkw running max boost (13psi) out of a stock turbo. Any more boost and it wasnt a smooth power curve. With the Power FC, i dont think i will be able to get much more peak power, probably a bit more meat in the middle. I noticed a slight dip at 6000rpm in the power curve which we couldnt get out. Ive noticed this on a few other dyno graphs as well with R33's, must be the stock ECU.

I think with a small HKS, we should be able to see 230/240rwkw comfortably even without a Power FC.

Any thoughts?

i'm pretty much in the same boast as you ...

s2, gts-t, with turbo back 3", hks pod, hks boost control ..

my mod list is as follows, for reasons i'll explain

1. power fc - not installed yet, on the way from japan

2. fmic - about to order

2. fuel pump - ordered

3. regulator - researching

4. afm (z32) - waiting till i find a decent priced one

5. turbo or injectors (high flow) - (sigh) expensive

6. injectors or turbo (high flow) - as above

the reaon i am doing it in this order is that i want all the support systems of the engine to be fully up to spec before i go winding up the boost to 'crazy ass levels'

with a 'phat, fully sick man' turbo ... the last thing i want is a melted piston due to the fuel pump maxing / dying or other such sillyness ...

just my 2 pence worth

(i'm a pom, so am still allowed to spend my opinion in £)

:)

How's your current turbo doing dude?

If it's on its way out, easy :) get the bigger turbo. Use the SAFC to lean things out. Then get the Power FC.

If not, I dunno. Personally I think I'd get the computer first.
