skysaresilver
i think i would have to go the RX-7 series 8 over the R33 GT-R but definately not a reasonable example of a R34 GT-R.... something about the R34 for me personally that screams "FUN" and lots of it.... hope you have a great time deciding what to buy, it's a tough call though Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/51950-rx-7-series-8-vs-gtr/page/2/#findComment-1026523 Share on other sites
s15_is_sx
I would go the series 8 rx7. They are just so sexy, so rare, lightweight well balanced rwd heaps of potential (not that the GTR doesn't) but it would have to be a 34 to make me think. Amir
looks like the rx7 would take it over the r33. by the way it says an rx7 is a 2.6L in HPI. Look at the back pages where it gives you the stats on drags using road tyres oz Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/51950-rx-7-series-8-vs-gtr/page/2/#findComment-1026963 Share on other sites
TEAMSHADOW
i thought the rx7 can easily have a screwed up engine, my friend drives an s13 silvia and he says, although rx7's are good at picking up chicks, the engine is easy to be blown wen tuned..thats his words not mine... Lithium
I personally would go the Series 8 RX7, the compromise of cabin space and POTENTIAL reliability issues (not a problem with a good tuner and maintainence) not being enough to put me off. As a actual performance package the RX7 feels more balanced to me, light weight, good handling without the need for 4WD, an engine with the equivalent displacement of an RB26DETT (and just as much willingness to make power, not to mention happier pushing large turbos), obviously looks good, and after all that basically better peforming in many ways than anything short of a NurSpec R34 GT-R or NSX-R.... anyone who has watched Best Motoring videos from Japan would have seen the RX7s in stock form beating the non N1-type R34s on everything but 1/4 mile times - giving away the 1/4 mile times due to traction, not acceleration. I have driven a fair range of cars, and I'd say don't knock the Series 8 unless you have actually driven them - they are HEAPS of fun. I'm also not putting down the GT-Rs, as much as anything it comes down to personal choice.... I havent seen the videos, but were the 1/4 mile times way off and do you recall the mph?? cheers Oz Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/51950-rx-7-series-8-vs-gtr/page/2/#findComment-1027247 Share on other sites
Lithium
I havent seen the videos, but were the 1/4 mile times way off and do you recall the mph??cheers Oz There was a good percentage of a second difference in 1/4 mile times, basically the RX7 would get destroyed down the 1/4 and the trap speeds weren't listed. On the high speed bowl RX7s visibly reel in R34 GTRs, and while I can't remember the exact speeds - the RX7s had a measurably higher top speed over a measured distance. beefy
I had a Series 6 RX7 prior to my current R33 GTR. Well what can I say, totally different type of cars. The RX7 is sexier and gets more looks - no doubt! The RX7 is rarer and I keep on getting people asking me what it is. The handling is better than the GTR in the dry. In the wet forget about driving it, leave it in the garage. The RX7 can only fit 2 people even in the 4 seater model. You will struggle to fit into the driver seat if you are over 6ft. The Rotary engine is smoother and when it is tuned right it is the most awesome thing to drive. It is lighter and has a unique sound when you give it some revs. Now I bought a R33 GTR, one because Ive always wanted one and two it is more practical where you can seat 4 ppl comfortably, it is more reliable and much better to drive in the wet. The GTR drinks a little less juice but only just. Insurance is about the same. Let me know your decision.
