Cost blow out on 15 year cars,

Bit of info guy's with the new 15 year car sign off so I will go through the ones that cost money.

This is to be looked at a worse case requirement and varys for different models so I am NOT SAYING IT IS FOR EVERYBODY just what I have seen at the last few sign offs.

Sign of is around $300 for a normal vehicle, side intrusion doors are $105 to $130 a door depending on car. And the work to bring it up to scratch so if you have the idea you will be able to know what is being done to your car.

Imported Vehicles Over 15 Years Old Manufactured on or after I July 1988

ADR 4/00 - SEATBELTS

Retractor lap sash seat belts on all outboard seating positions.

All outboard seatbelts incorporate an ELR and/or an ALALR.

This will cost $60 to $80 per belt, a lot of pre 91 model cars.

ADR 7/00 - HYDRAULIC BRAKE HOSES

Hydraulic brake hoses comply with SAE J1401, FMVSS 106.

Normal markings but need to be in good order if not how much do your brake lines cost.

ADR 8/00 Safety Glazing Material

Windscreen glass marked as being laminated

We have had to replace glass in 1991 model Soarers $240.

ADR 11/00 – INTERNAL SUN VISORS

Sun visors present rigid material edges of less than 3mm, Sun visors fitted are padded with energy absorption material $80.

ADR 14/00 - REAR VISION MIRROR

RHS external mirror reflective surface “Flat’ $10

Right hand may be convex only if ’E’ marked $10

ADR 22/00 - HEAD RESTRAINTS

Distance between upper and lower edges not less than 115 mm

Minimum height of upper boundary above intersection of seat cushion and seat back at centre line of seat > 700mm. You measure from a seating reference point from a designed tool is what we use.

ADR 24/00 - TYRE AND RIM SELECTION

Are NEW tyres fitted AS A LOT OF JAPANESE ONES FAIL AS THEY DODNT HAVE THR REQUIRED MARKINGS, dosent matter how much tread they have.

At least 4 tread wear indicators

Tyres fitted comply with DOT or E mark specifications

A placard of durable material is permanently affixed to the vehicle and contains

the following information:

• For each nominated rim profile the recommended tyre size?

• Recommended tyre pressures in kpa?

• Statement on load rating and speed category.

Rims are marked according to ADR

ADR 28/00 - EXTERNAL NOISE OF MOTOR VEHICLES

Vehicle sound level measurement satisfies WA VSR 2002 level for year of manufacture

Exhaust system is in good condition with no leaks or corrosion

Stationary Sound level measurement dBa. Test Result reading: Using a machine the all RAWS have.

ADR 29/00 - SIDE DOOR STRENGTH

Now the fun begins, some have them most dont prices vary but I know of one workshop that contracts the bars and passes over savings like that if they sign off the car and their rates are the same as everybody else.

Side doors fitted with OEM side intrusion bars.

Side doors for occupant protection have had impact intrusion bars fitted and meet

ADR standards by a appearance, comparison or test

ADR 34/00 - CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGES & CHILD RESTRAINT

Child Restraint Anchorages provided for each applicable rear seating position

Anchorages fitted meet Australian equivalent standards by inspection,

Comparison or test Easy to fit and very cheap $25.

ADR 37/00 - EMISSION CONTROL FOR LIGHT VEHICLES

For vehicle categories MA, MB1 & MC1 only (under 2.7t GVM).

Readily visible unleaded fuel label affixed near petrol filler inlet (or filler cap marked)

Filler neck internal diameter more than 21.30 mm and less than 23.6 mm

(For unleaded petrol nozzle only). FIT FUEL RESTRICTOR.

Electrical Wiring Supported at not more than 600 mm intervals.

Exhaust pipe extends at least 40 mm beyond rearmost unsealed joint of floor-pan

ADR 60/00 - CENTRE HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMPS

Central High mounted Stop Lamp fitted.

Mounted on the vehicles median longitudinal plane

Mounted with no part of the lens lower than the bottom edge of the rear window by more than 152 mm for convertibles, and 77 mm for other vehicles

Different world over here now as it went from give it a detail, washers work ok then down to the pits now it is a 12 page check list side intrusion bars, tyres, both mirrors, belts (not just ones that work), brake lines and the list goes on.

I had personaly taken carsdown after giving just a wash now the fun begins.

I have sourced side intrusion bars from our supplier of compliance parts that are riveted in and the rivets sit behind the rubber door seals, no welding or drilling holes in you doors like some people are doing.

I have every thing else on hand or avialabe same day, if you want to save money prepping the doors and that type of thing wont be a problem.

I am working out different pricings this week from drive in drive out to doors and sign off only.

We will only sign off certain peoples work due to the amount of shitty work going around.

wouldnt it be better to also weld the bar as well as rivet it?

The bars are a tight fit and the rivets are more for holding in place and welding is just for lazy people.

no i meant that ive heard people rivet the bars in, and then weld them for extra strength.

Some people dont like welding as it distorts the metal as it is thin and creates a weak point which also rusts.

It is a lot to do with what they will sign off, the more strength in the bar the better but if it is designed well it just really needs to sit their and be held in place.
