Hey all

Well a little while ago i got some new suspension fitted. That being bilstein shocks and whiteline springs (whiteline package). and since then i have put on cusco strut braces and whiteline sway bars.

anyways, in terms of the allignment. its pretty good. but the steering wheel changes position betweena bout 60 and 100kph

like its pretyt much dead straight up to around 60... but then as you accelerate to 100 youh ave to turn the wheel to the left to keep going straight... like you slowly turn the wheel between 60 and 100 to keep going straight. and then at 100 the wheel is then about 30 - 40 degrees to the left off straight. then it goes back to straight when you slow down again..

and obviously if you just hold the wheel straight. instead of turning it to the left. the car actually steers to the rightwhen accelerating from about 60 to 100.. ish.

never heard of anything like this before...

anyone know whats going on?

then a little while ago someone said my car wasnt going straight forward... sorta hard to explain. but from the outside. (mate following my car) he said, say if the car was going straight up the screen.. it would look like this | | going straight up. yet he said mne was like / / that. yet still going straight up the screen. if anyone can understand that :D. lol

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks guys :)

oh. btw its an 1992 R32 GTSt

Thanks again

sounds.. worrying.

did you get it aligned after having the suspension done? you MUST do this. although, i've not heard of a car changing behaviour like you describe.. i wouldn't be driving it fast until you know what's going on!

Memph, sounds like a HICAS problem. Have you removed or replaced the steering wheel recently? I have come across several instances of crabbing // due to the HICAS having a hissy fit. At about 80 kmh the power steering reduces its assistance so it isn't so easy to hold the wheel, so it feels like the wheel pulling over and the hicas turns in the same direction. R32's and R33's both do this. Sometimes the light doesn't show because it has blown or has been removed. Sometimes the computer has failed. Try to work through the obvious causes but if you have no joy then I can help as the bars I supply remove this problem completely.

Good luck.

The speed thing does make it sound HICAS related but one thing to check...

if it wasn't a skyline I would say that it has been in a smash and the chasis is bent. i had a car like this once and it drove like a crab as you have described.

As bob and daveo said, I also had a car that had been punted over a kerb and broke the steering box. Was never the same and crabbed but this is somewhat of an inherent HICAS pain.

well it does have an aftermarket steering wheel...

And the hicas comes on and goes off when ever it feels like it... but i thought that was due to the steering wheel and it didnt really mean much.

ahh well. i'll invest in a hicas lock bar some time soon and see what happens...

can this cause any long term damage?

and yes. the car was alligned after suspension change. and again about a week ago after tyre change.

cheers for the help.

Get out your tape measure and check the wheelbase, on both sides. Measure from the centre of the LHS front wheel to the centre of the LHS rear wheel. Do the same on the RHS and compare the measurements. That will tell you if the front axle line is parrallel to the rear axle line.
