Ticking on startup behind dashboard

On ignition, I get ticking behind the dashboard that will disappear after a few seconds. I've read on the forum a few suggestions, but was hoping for anything concrete and what needs to be done. thanks.

There are threads in the General Maintenance section that outline that the cause of the ticking sound is dur to faulty/shorting contacts on your indicator stalk contact points.

The ticking sound itself comes from the relay unit under your dash, near your left knee. its a unit that has 'miles' or something to that extent - and this is the thing that 'ticks'

I have ripped my dash apart and found this device, and it looked to be in pristine condition. As such, after discussion, it seems that the contact points would be the cause.

Do a search and ye shall find plently of info.

Thanks for that, so is this something I need an auto elec to do considering I'm really not comfortable playing around with the car too much??
