Hey,

Ive put this post in the section simple because its coming next to impossible to get help on these forums these days, im unsure why but people who know there stuff have some how disappeared from this forum

Anyway, I drained my oil today and it appears there was a fair amount of crap in my oil, which appeared to be saind grains or something, however i'm pretty sure it was not metal. anyway i drained my oil filter and came back to inspect the oil and it appeared to contain some form of plastic/ceramic or something.. it was much larger then the sand grain stuff and i was able to crush it.

Does anyone know what this stuff is and how it's getting in my oil?

also i use a 10w Motul oil, which is dark brown in colour.. and when i drained my oil this morning it was very dark.

Basically i need some advice on what to do if im getting crap in my oil and my oil is getting really dirty, how can i fix this?

thanks

Ok I'll have a go. It sounds like carbon deposits from cooked oil, maybe from the turbo bearings. They run down from the turbo and sit in the sump, some get picked up by the oil pump, but the oil filter catches them before they go any further.

Some questions;

1. Has this been happening for more than one oil change?

2. How many K's between oil changes?

3. What oil filter are you using?

4. What mods have you done (particularly turbo)?

5. Car usage pattern, traffic, circuit, drag etc?

6. Do you cool the turbo (and the rest of the car) down before you stop?

7. Does it make any strange noises?

8. Running temperature?

A bit more searching I am sure will we find the reason and an answer. :wavey:

Oh no, loosing turbo bearings sounds bad..

1. Yes it has, when i changed my oil 5,000 ago it had MORE of the crap in it

2. 5,000

3. Not sure what I was previously running, but when i did my last oil change i it with a Valvoline filter, not sure the model number .. maybe an R9? .. i mean its the normal sized filter, i can find out the model number for you if you need

4. No mods that I can think of, i did take off my blow off valve and block it off, so there for not running a BOV at all.

5. Used on the street only, however I tend to drive it hard on the street. (I do recall fishtailing till i blew the clutch/ put the engine warning light on / while sitting on 6 grand for possibly 10 seconds :)

6. Yes, times change but i approx. cool down for 3 minutes.

7. A few, A bit of gearbox noise, also some noise from my diff.. my "Drive train" ( the long bad that runs down the middle of the car to the diff) has some left and right move ment in it.

8. Not to sure, however i have not seen it tise above half way on the stock temp gauge, it could even sit a little higher then in the middle, but i can not confirm this.

If it helps, i have a dent in my sump and i also have changed my clutch recently.

Thank for your help, if you could try and get back to asap so i can figure out what to do

Regards,

Essential

why would you want to remove the blow off valve altogether?? it serves the purpose of reducing wear on your turbo to start with..

how big is the dint in the sump? that could be starving the engine of oil if the pickup is damaged...

#4, you mean it's stock standard? No mods at all, not even exhaust?

Syko - Dont even go there.. but for the record yes i do realise this and i am trying to get my hands on a stock blow of valve, the reason i did take it off is because i got dont for an atmo. then i put a pplum back and got done for a plum back as it was nto standard

End of story

Uhmm Yeah stock standard, it has a 3" cat back mandrel bent FACTORY exhaust. As far as im aware its a factory upgrade, I seriously can't think of any other mods, i may have

Hi! I can relate to BOV issue you've obviously had!! anyways.....

When you wipe the sump plug area with that good old dirty and sandy rag (you know the one, it resides with all the rest of the crap) , is there a chance that the rubbish falls from the rag, and around the wiped sump plug and into the dump bucket. Honestly, I would've thought that if there was as much 'junk' as you imply, then your engine would be acting and sounding awfully strange and dangerous by now. I offer u this, consider then chuck if not required.

All the best, mark.
