cops dont even know what the **** they are looking at when they looksie under most import bonnets...like they are gonna see behind the turbo shield and spot a larger turbo...and know that ur running 300rwkw

i am really glad I drove a slow ass tank for my P plater years before I bought the skyline...I used to do lots of stupid sh!t and somehow never had an accident!

Driving performance cars is dangerous enough... Throw in inexperience, a dash of adrenalin, some male pride and a handful of stupidity and you have a very dangerous situation...

P platers should not be driving powerful cars, they are scary enough in hatchbacks... Even you can get away with it... WTF are the parents doing letting their kid drive a hi po car!!!

To all P platers driving cars that exceed the power/weight ratio... Doesn't it void your insurance policy if you have an accident???

Worse case scenario> you survive but you kill your best mates, write off your car, get a criminal record and get banned from driving for life... its just not worth it...

just saw it on the news, was a dark r33. think it was a 2 door but it was hard to tell because it was pretty messed up.

Can't stand how imports are going to be targeted now. you don't see cops going after high powered p plate commodores after one of those goes through a house each month.

as stated numerous times in this thread nick...i think dirving a high powered car just increases the risk of an accident...its quite obvious any car is dangerous...if you decide to break the speed limit or try and broadside a corner or do anything stupid you face the consequences no matter what the age of the driver is

This makes me mad ... Not just the incident, but the fact that there's pages of discussion on whether P platers should be driving the cars when there was no mention of the driver being under 21. Not defending them in any way - just i hate to see other's actions (driving illegally, then killing themself or others) rub off on me (a young driver), as i consider myself to be extremely responsible, in and out of a car.

Been driving since a few days after hitting 16. I have the experience of power (wet roads and mustang) and will definitely be doing driver training and skidpan.

I have no objection to the power/capacity:weight rules. The idea of ****ing around on the road scares me as i would hate to dent the car, or kill myself for that matter.

Eg. 2 friends and I were watching on grand final day at one of their houses, we are all 17 and on L's - we needed supplies for bbq. They couldn't be bothered walking to the shops - his parents/family out of town - keys to the turbo capri (it's slow... but thought i might mention it's a turbo) were there. So they decide to drive it up. I made it clear i wasn't jeopardising my licence in any way and didn't go. The guy had had a beer too. Told me later that they did 80 in our street on the way back. So - driving without a licence, alcohol in the system, 30km/h over the limit.

Why do people constantly have to put their lives and more importantly the lives of others at risk when it will eventually end up in tragedy. It's simply a matter of time until drivers no matter what car out drive themselves and cause an accident.

I noticed this morning had damp roads too. What would convince you that you can drag race on public wet roads without the risk of injury??

Yes, I feel for the parents and family of those involved in the accident but I'm having trouble feeling sympathy for the drivers of the vehicles who risk lives in an uncontrolled environment. Drag racing at the track is risky enough but at least there are safety crews and concrete walls there incase there is a problem and you lose control. There ain't anyone on the roads to save your sorry a$$ if you fark up.

Take it off the public roads you farking jokers and stop thinking your're better than you really are.

sorry to frust my anger, but i am at the stage sick of seeing stories of p-platers on the news killing themselves or driving in excess of the speed limit in an import car like the 300zx chick... damnn ..why don't people get power to weight ratio?

i think the power to weight ratio law should be changed. Under the current system if you mod an R32 gtst to 500rwkw (exaggerated to prove a point) it is still legal coz the cops only look at the stock power figure.

They dont seem to enforce it on P platers and most likely the R33 involved in the crash wasnt stock (can anyone clarify this??(

Mate i just saw the skyline on the news it was pritty quick but appreaed to have a front mount so u would have to guess that the car has some kinda of modz..

um, THEY DO! why do you think if you have p-plates on the car you are xx times more likely to get pulled over by a copper?? Because they are checking for modifications half the time which they aren't hell fans of on any car (and they are illegal), never mind one driven by a p-plater. If you are a p-plater AND driving a modified car you are as good as writing out the defect yourself.

If you are a bit older, they may well turn a blind eye to some modifications, but if you are young, driving a car which may be borderline on the power/weight anyhow they are not going to allow you any leeway whatsoever if your car is modified to give it more power (or anything else) than standard. Even standard can in some circumstances be too much for the inexperienced driver.

And that is what you see time and time again when younger people to get pulled over. What happens when you are defected? your car is asked to be returned "to stock" or quite close to it. The cops are not just doing it to frustrate you, or make your life hell (not always ) but in some ways its to protect some of you from your very self.

yeah saw the crash on the news over here, very disappointed about it and my sympathy is kinda restrained because it was done in a stupied act that also effects everyone in this forum.

Didn't realise you guys had a power to weight ration in Vic.

I thought it was if you are below 21 you're not allowed to drive a turbo car or anything over V6.

The news articles clearly state:

"Police believe all those involved in the crash were in their late teens or early 20s" and

"Two young men were killed in an apparent street drag racing accident in St Kilda overnight." and

"The victims were 18-year-old and 19-year-old"

The only detail yet to be revealed is the drivers exact age but given the rest of the info I doubt he is much older than the passengers..

Was the driver's age or license status [P plate or not] mentioned in the TV news?
