Must have been the same 'expert' cop that said in the paper recently that a bov is connected to the exhaust and that all out cars do the 1/4 mile in 10 seconds.

I agree that it was a tragedy. More so than that it was just a waste.Now as a consequence the rest of the import community will be targeted even more unfairly than what we have to put with now. Hooning isn’t a new problem, ever since there has been cars there have been hoons. It is a problem that has been around for a lot longer than any of us. It is not just a modern day problem and it is also just not specific to one make or model of car. A hoon is a hoon whether they are in a modded Skyline or a Kia. Its not about what they drive its mentality. When something like this happens it is a tragedy for all involved from friends and family to the emergency servicees who are left to clean up the mess. The media in its never ending quest for ratings and governments in their quest for votes then use situations like these to futher there own agendas. This is where it must change. All the groups must come together, put aside differences and agendas and have an honest discussion about what can be done to help with this situation. There are no easy answers, no simple solutions, but through communication surely something could come out of it that would begin to help the problem. All the knee jerk reactions that follow a tradegy such as this do nothing to solve the problem. A power restriction- as if a hoon will care about that, also you can do just as much damage in a low powered vehicle, curfews- same as before to the hard core hoon little things such as laws are not going to stop them. Education looks to be the best solution but even that will not be effective in all cases, there are some people that no matter what will just not change their minds. There are a lot of other ideas but none will work on there own. It needs to be a long term effort not just a quick fix and it also needs input from all parties, motorists, police and government alike. The one thing that is not needed anymore is the medias sensationalism of these incidents. All they do is give the public an even more distorted view if the import car community

I never actually said they were racing...... the news article describes the incident as a "suspected street drag-racing accident". The media inferred this was the cause based on the police statements.  Anything could have happened, but it's still highly probable that the accident was caused by CARELESS DRIVING.  Like I said, incidents like this certainly don't improve the image of import car drivers.

What upsets me most, is that insurance for a turbo coupe is ridiculous for younger drivers (even older ones). It should be a big enough deterent to keep inexperienced people out of cars, hence insurance companies rape so hard.

But then i hear of people blowing all their money on a fast car, and driving around with no insurance, leaving it at risk to accident or theft. im sure who ever is lending or garantor for the loan might need to think twice.

As stated previously, if its your hard earned cash, you would quickly realise not to take stupid risks in your car.

Also sad part, is it takes a near miss/tragedity before some people realise how mortal they really are.

Thats not to say i dont enjoy driving my car and hearing the turbo spool, but i dont speed, and have never had a traffic offense since getting my license. Have had a few low speed bingles however.

Get over it, I will say what I like and I stand by my comments. This affects me because I drive an import, live nearby to the area where this accident occurred, and I dont appreciate being harassed by cops because of the CARLESS actions of other drivers.

to my friend David and William who passed away yesterday right infront of my face.

i saw then dying.. the images in my head are so grusome.. its unbelivable..

i was driving the Silver Honda..

we werent dragging.. just cruising..65-70 k's in 70K zone

he hit boost at the wrong time and place( little bend)

and he just lost control and was about 1-2 metres away from hitting me..

guys.. atm i feel very bad.. terrible.. sitting in my car.. watching all this happen very slowly...

the media are bigheads.. make up some nonsense and try to sell their "made up" crap..

travelling 70k in a 70k zone is perfectly legal (if im not mistaken) but it seems that the cops were quite quick to come to the conclusion that it was a "racing accident".

If what the honda driver is saying is true then it appears to be nobody's fault... a genuine accident. The only factor which killed the 2 passengers was the lack of experience of the driver for his car

i remeber when the people that drove fast cars actually turned the spanners themselves therefore having an idea on the mechanics of things....i beleive this plays a part in knowing when enough is enough.........And no...changing the oil yourself doesnt count

A lot of the Serious Drag Racers don't even bother driving themselves anymore, usually someone lighter/smaller with better reflexes...

I have been in accidents in previous cars, my first car a 59 Kw engined 1984 Bluebird Gx and secondly a 96 Kw engined 1991 Pintara Trx [modified slightly].

I change my oil, suspension, spark plugs [not that easy on a 34gtt], parts of the exhaust, wheels, soon to do brakes, misc electrical wiring, R&R misc parts inc AAC valve, throttle, IC & plumbing, front apron & reo, some panels, headlights, modifications to intake etc...hopefully I won't need to R&R the engine! My car has barely been touched by my mechanic in 2 years...

Hitting boost at 70km means he was in 2nd gear, and unless he had it atleast 75% throttle, hitting boost in second wouldnt cause the car to act like that unless he had a phat turbo on there. The damage to the car and the claimed speed of 70km doesent seem to add up unless the r33 are very weak structually in the rear seat area!!

Travelling 70k in a 70k zone is not illegal generally speaking, a P-plate driver with an illegal car such as this however is a different story.

I recall a part of the "Honda driver" saying "he hit boost...on a bend" and somebody else on ns forums said it was a non-turbo 33 converted to a turbo - if this is the case then was to rest of the car "upgraded" such as brakes, suspension etc???

My summation:

Hitting boost mid way through a bend in a turbo-modified r33 GTS without traction control in the wet with friends on board [also possibly p plater] = NO BRAINS

The 70km/h claim is dubious. Thats a lot of damage for that speed.

Not saying this is the case, but denying the facts or perhaps lieing just compounds the problem...as typically nothing is ever learnt if they see it as bad luck rather then a mistake.

Why would he have a Blitz intercooler if he was running stock turbo, sure he just might want it for the cosmetic blitz sprayed on but you usually dont swap it unless your car needs it (turbo upgrade...)

upgrading cooler is one of the first things you do in the modification stage before you get bigger turbo.

Which isent the point of this thread but raises the question as to how fast he was actually going as the police report on the news says he overtook the hondas and then changed lanes and braked causing the car to loose control. Totally different to what the honda driver story

I never realised how many "civilised, honest, evironmentally caring, unmodified (so called) LEGAL, law obiding Skyline citizens" we had amongst us here :confused: cast your stones he who has not sinned. So what, the car had mods, big deal... go buy a toyota echo, or a fiat 500 if you're environmentally friendly. P plates or not, it's a fact, chances of an accident whilst on your P are higher than other demographics, he had a powerful car ?? hmmmm that's debatable. Regardless I think it's comes down to using your brains when behind the wheel. By the looks of the PIC's and reading the Honda drivers post, I have my doubts about the claimed speed they were travelling..
