i used to own a series II r33,

had it for 1 yr , thought it was time to upgrade,, so bought r34 gtt

ya,, it drives better,, has more power to start with,

had the new car smell!! loll

personally think it looks better than the r33,, when fitted with a nice kit

afro

1. Newer - less expensive to maintain(usually) as less things are worn out.

2. Lower Km generally

3. Rarer, much much rarer than 33s here in Canberra.

4. Styling is much more aggressive in my opinion.

5. More power and torque stock.

6. May hold their value better as they are the last(at this stage) Turbo Skyline and not many of them coming into the countriy.

my 34 gtt is now sold but here's some comments anyways...i had my 34 for 2 years and it went through a fair few mods from engine bolt-ons to suspension bits whilst i had it...

- i personally think there are a sh!tload more bolt on mods available for r33 gtst's

- looks are personal, imho though, a stock r34 gtt's look VERY ORDINARY whilst a stock R33 looks nice

- you'd save quite a bit buying an r33 over a 34.

- i think r33's react better to mods than an r34, the neo rb25 seems to kill it, similar to when the wrx went from the GC8 to the GC9.

- r33's have tuffer stock turbo's than 34's

i really enjoyed the 34, the following did it for me:

- it had a pretty nice kit on it from japan when i bought it so it was abit of a head turner

- i took it down the track a fair bit and eventually got it setup really well (heres a vid from behind http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/photopost.../cat/500/page/1) nb: the wrx the video camera is in is a stroked 2.2litre MY02 STi with plenty of mumbo and all i was running was 7psi. i think it was abit of a track weapon personally, a little underpowered though.

- i also enjoyed many trips in it. ie. up to the hunter valley and down south. it was a very comfortable car to drive. http://www.pbase.com/franks/image/12443620

- it wasnt the best on fuel, but no performance car is, and this is certainly not the worst car on fuel consumption...

- it was practical. i could fit 2 adults and 2 small people :( pretty comfortably. it can fit my mountain bike in the back (if i took my front wheel off) and it could also fit my wakeboard. it doesnt have split fold rear seats though - that's a bummer. the 33 will have more room in the back too.

so overall. yeah top allround car, had street presence, was a weapon on the track and it toured wonderfully - but nothing a 33 couldnt do i dont think ...

enjoy the pics.

I was in a similar situation to you. I had the choice between an 33 GTST and being able to mod it, a 32GTR already modified or a stock 34 GTT.

I went for the 34GTT given the fact the car was new. I know its performance was not going to be as fast but i have noticed the following compared to the 33gtst:

I get 550km per tank on BP ultimate doing City driving 5 days a week and not the most timid driving.

There is more pickup than most 33's out there but it seems 33's with simple zorst and intake mods can match.

My car is completely stock though.

I bought the R34 becuase is it simply the tuffest looking car short of the R34 GTR in my opinion.

It was the newest, lowest kays and I could finance it from my car allowance as it will be less than 8 years old when the finance runs out.

And I just wanted one.

BASS OUT

I had an R33 and i found parts extremely easy to get while 34 parts are a bit harder to find.

The R34 is a nicer car all round though. Especially for just driving around. I know my GTR interior wise shits all over my old 33's interior and im pretty sure the R34 GT-t isnt too far behind in terms of that.

im also in a similar dilemma, but i know i would pick the r34 as it will always be the newer and more desirable car(at least in my opinion), the back lights on the r34 is worth the premium price...Franks can i ask wat bodykit combo you had on ur r34, the front and rear bars look sweet, im guessing the skirts are bomex?

I was 100% sold on the R34....let's face it I bought a 25GT over an R33 GTS-t!!! :)

But that's only because the GTt was insanely expensive when I bought my car...and my brother had an R33...so I had to go one better :)

My main reason for getting the 34 was the fact it was newer, styling was sportier than the 33....and finally it had tiptronic, which I'm a big fan of.

I love the look of the R34 which is why I chose it. It was running 350hp (250ish KW) at the wheels before a loose oil cooler hose killed the engine, so I'm now going for a 500hp (350KW) GTR engine for the reasons below -

Good Points

Looks - Top Secret or Impul front bar are the best

Interior - better than the R33

Rarer - Less about

Bad points

Tuning Parts - There's lots more choice for the R33

Mapping - Mapping R34 PFC's is a joke due to no software available

Yup, was at Ice on Sat. Nige sat there with the Power FC controller and pluged away for around 15 mins, car runs like a dream now and over 200kw at the wheels. You don't so much need the software to tune them more the know how.

Heard all about your nitemares IanH and sounds like it was a major pain in the arse! Must be hard with little resource available to you over there huh?

Never driven one, never sat in one. Hell, i've never drive a Skyline before :P

I'm not exactly at the family stage and i'm into my cars so bang for your buck, and other categories, the R34 comes out ontop for me.

Relatively new. Unique styling compared to a lot of cars, not just Nissan. IMO does look more agressive than R33.

Nice interior, got all the guages, nice two tone colour seats, compared to R33 ones. Big fan of the dials :)

Plus it's got a fair list of extras. Xenons (all boxed up for me by my compliance place :) ), Traction Control, Dual Airbags, LSD, Standard 17" rims, ABS, good disc brakes/suspension, electric windows/side mirrors, Immobiliser, good torque and power. Relative to R33.

I was thinking S15, even S6 RX7, but the R34 is semi-practical. Can be track weapon and comfortable cruiser. Still not many around. The least made of the Skyline models, and as other ppl have said, the last of the straight 6 turbo's (well at this stage)

Given that, i can't tell u more cos i don't have my car yet, i'm just hoping for good things :D I guess i should have driven at least a Skyline before i bought one, oh well :D

cheers.
