I got a mate to install my stereo into my new r31, its all fine except the volume increases and decreases by itself. He used factory wiring except for the power lead which he ran from the lighter power source, he has done this with other installations and said it works fine. I had this unit in my previous r31 and it worked fine, so i don't know what is wrong this time. If anyone could help me out with what they think the problem is, or how to rewire it correctly, it help a lot as i dont want to spend a great deal of money on a unit which just annoys me.

cheers

mine was sorta the same...except one day it got louder and has stayed that way...i used to cruise with it at vol10, now i cruise with it at vol4 or vol6!! no settings have changed...

what h/u u got? are they amped? what speakers? is it all of them only the fronts? sub?

i got a pioneer unit, it is only a few months old and was $1000, so it shouldn't have nething wrong with it. i have pioneer 240w 6 X 9's in the rear and pioneer 240w 6's in the front, none of which r amped. i did have a pioneer 12" sub but i blew that about 6 months ago. Thats basically it, ne help willbe good

well my h/u is also pioneer. my mates have the same one (dehp3550mp) but theres cuts out on the left hand side when they turn a left corner n stuff...check all your wires again, ring up the place where u got it installed (if u didnt do it yourself) and say somethings wrong is it still under warranty...

His mate installed the head unit so i take it theres no warranty on the installation hehe,

ummm if the volume goes up and down on its own i really think it wont be the wiring, Check the wiring again make sure its all ok.

One test you can do but its a pain in the arse, this will tell you exactly where the problem lies. Fit it to another car or take it to a car audio place(strathfield car radios) and ask them to test it on there test bench(will only take 2 minutes to test), if the volume still goes spastic then send the unit back to pioneer to fix if not, then its something with the installation

ps: just because the unit says its pioneer and its only few months old and costs over 1000$ doesnt mean it cant break down. I've used alpine h/u in my car and it hasnt failed since. Make sure you still have the paper work when u bought the unit and do what i said above

i got a Pioneer DEH6550 and theres an automatic volume adjustment which u can turn off. the volume increases when you drive faster due to "higher engine and road noise". i think its the ASL or something similar to that.
