Shifter Cutting

rightio, the shifter in the 33 is BLARDY long, annoying and frankly...ghey

so, im not really prepared to spend over $300 on a crappy rice boy short shifter cos honestly, its not needed (i shift quick enough and the throws arnt that long compared to some other cars iv driven)

so, iv draw the conclusion that im going to do it..DODGY STYLEZ!

cut da biatch down and shlap on a momo knob that tightens up with the allen nuts

what are the pros and cons of doing this?

anyone here actually do it to their 33?

it would be easy, just take off your knob and cut the shaft to your hearts content. just check that your new knob will fit over the lower section of shaft, it gets bigger below the standard knob

and where can one get such an item?

have u thought about cutting a middle section not 2 far down out of the stick then weld back the screw thread so that u can still use the same gear knob?

To be realll dodgy would be not to take the gear stick out first. Just go in the car with angle grinder in hand..... or oxy. Have seen this done, "we'll just put a big sheet on this side to stop the sparks!"

i was planning on taking the whole shifter out and cutting it, no i wasnt planning on cutting the middle section, cos with the way i shift chances are the welding will snap off

Thing is....is the lever solid all the way down??? If so it should be allright but you need to turn it down to the right diam on a lathe then cut a thread in the new top end to take the gear knob. I've got an eight ball on top of mine ( go the '60's ) . I've been thinking about doing it to my C's shifter so I can use a gate instead of the leather boot.
