importing for race/rally use

Recommended Posts

I don't think you're legally allowed to do that, as anything that comes in under that rule should expressly be used for that purpose, but I don't have the legislation here to confirm

I don't know either.

but my experience has been that as long as it is never registered, no-one tracks the car once it arrives.

but again, if you want something for parts surely a half cut is better, cheaper to buy and import and will probably have all the bits you need.

ok, i think its a 1995 rx7, you can only import them for race/rally use...

now, u can import one for about $13000 or cheaper

and in australia they are $30-50000

so if you have lets say a bare shell thats road legal in australia, would taking out the whole of the import and putting it into the aussie car make it legal?

yea i been dreaming about importing series 6-7 exracer rx7. i think you need a ANDRA licences but you could drive it on the road, (in wa) anyway with $12 permit's they only last 48hours so just pick one up every friday arvo and kill everyone on crusies on the weekends. also dont need to have number plates. prob wouldnt happen but its my dream.

so you can do that?

you can buy a race / rally use import, and swap everything into an australian road registered car and itll be legal?

thanks

No you cant do it as the motor is never to be in any other vehicle.

RX7's arent on the FIA list so you have to get a letter from CAMS to bring one in as of the last month.

They are cracking down big time.

eh? there is nothing illegal about swapping an engine, I did this in my gtst a couple of months ago.  Just needs a blue slip

Was it race rally.

nope, the car was under the old LEV scheme and the engine from a half cut...but of course the people who inspected for the blue slip didn't know where the engine came from.

My rally gtr on the other hand has been sitting around with a blown engine for about 6 months and is about to get a new one, but then that engine will be rebuilt and used elsewhere....I'm pretty sure there is no rule about how a part (eg engine) can be used once it has arrived in aus.
