The current issue of Zoom mag has the beginning stages of putting an RB26 into a 4 door R33 backed by a modified factory AUTO.

The workshop that modded the auto, M V automatics, claimed it will handle the power fine and also not be un street friendly with over the top harsh shifting.

And it wasnt an expensive excercise either, under $500 is what it cost to beef the auto.

they actually claimed the R33GTS auto gearbox to be internally the same as most other nissan auto's including the GTSt box

is this true?

my R32 auto box may survive longer than i thought :P

btw... great idea of an auto RB26!

Waz.

ah cameron you will learn very fast not to throw stones when you buy a car and are the legal age to get a licence and a job. Ah i could go on for ever the point remains dont belive every thing your big brothers tell you and mabyyou need to go the cairns (drag way) and have a look at the quallity of cars you to will agree when you see it

my project isnt that odd as it has many people intrested i would like to hear from people who have tried it

sorry about the verbal bashing hopefully this thread can get back on track

I reckons it's a great idea I was looking at doing it with my car...tiptronic GTR power was looking an attractive option....unfortunately the cost of it wasn't looking as good :P

For me the RB30 is going to give an acceptable result for a bit less outlay.

Their ain't no drag stip in cairns. Are you refering to the speed way ? Since when can you run 8 sec 1/4 mile pass around a doughnut shaped track !

If their is a drag strip in cairns I'd love to know were it is :)

What cars are you refering to that will not bring you any challenge ? V8's ? Imports ?

Their are some very quick V8's around and some Skylines/Silvias aswel.

I have nothing against you'r idea it is a great one, Just its a lot of time & money you'll have to spend doing it. But im sure their are other little things involved that you havn't realised yet.

You'r decision.

:P

mmm a lot of the big cars mentioned like the couple Cameron mentioned are air shifted manuals isn't that sort of auto??

Nah, they don't have a torque converter, that seems to be the test most applied to determin what is an auto and what isn't.:P

Is this a purely a drag car or is it to be driven on the road? Daily? What is your target bhp? Because there are quite a few issues that make daily driving quite different than a blast down the 1/4 once a month.

:P

Sydney Kid, It will be a 1/4 mile car, what would be the best mod to do to the standard gear box apart from torque converter?

Dear Cameron. as i have said before to you, there is no challenge in cairns..eg: no drag strip! There is not one and there is never going to be one...that is what i was trying to tell you if you just read in between the lines. I do know of one private drag strip that i have been testing at but you will never have access as it is private property owned by my-self and a few other ajoining properties. It was a gov project that went bust and i bought the land on the cheap as it has a very smooth and long road right through it(2.5 lanes wide and 2km long). So now you know why i never come to "Maccas" to show my cars off as i have a better place where i do not just park and sit. Dont bother trying to find out where it is as it will never be disclosed. So now you know all that you need to know. Hope this is the end of your PMs.

Actually maccas is to socialise, ovbiously you don't want to be apart of that.

What times have you been pulling off ? Do you have the propper timer to get your TS, 60ft, ET etc.

Why do you have to be the opposite and not socialise and not come on cruises ?

Have fun,

:wavey:

Valve body change, solenoid upgrade and a big transmission cooler would be on my list. The torque converters seem OK, the stall at 1,800 rpm with standard power and get up around 2,750 rpm with the usual mods for 225 rwkw. They launch very well at the power/stall combo as the tubo is producing some boost.

Hope that helps:cheers:

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps
    • Does anyone run this kit with factory plenum? Does the adapter and bosch tb fit under factory strut brace? I wanted to get this setup before going forward facing manifold. Thanks
    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
