Hey all, im basically new to all this importing bizz, and im looking to (hopefully) import an 89 model R32 GT-R, possibly modified. What are the things i have to look out for when complying and bringing in an R32 under the 15 year rule, especially when modified?

Also, i was wondering if anyone could recommend a particular workshop that complies R32 GT-R's which are over 15 years old? I'd like it as cheap as possible, but i also want quality, so i understand that there must be some comprimise between the two to get the best possible result.

So, any help guys?

Thanks.

SPHYNX[x'] I'd like it as cheap as possible, but i also want quality, .

For $26,000 to $30,000 you can land a 1992/94 complyied as a Sydeny workshop will have it soon.

If you are spending under $25,000 you need to know what you are buying and who is buying it for you I now use a GTR workshop not to buy GTR's.

I missed out on a 1994 R32 GTR with 80,000 klm and it was a grade 4 car with a A/M muffler and a scratch repaired.

It sold for 1,100,000 FOB which is what a 89 GTR with the clock reading half its true klms.

No GTR is cheap and good quality just do your research and you will see what it costs, a friend is making a second bussiness now selling motors for 89 GTR's.

They are out their a buyier in Japan picked up a 60,000 klm car grade 4.5 for 1,400,000 but it is for his colection he wont sell it to even me.

What is your budget to get the car on the road all ready to go.

basically im willing to spend up to 25k, tops. I don't want to look for local ones because they have more than likely been thrashed. I found one for sale(local one) for 19k, and it's barely running, whereas i found one in rather good condition, very lightly modified for 16k. This isn't counting compliance, stamp duty, rego, import fees etc.

I just need to start working out all the costs and what not to get it running and on the road. I know i have to be weary of such cheap GT-R's online, but even if it isn't running at 100% i'm sure it wouldn't cost too much getting it up and running again. I'm probably going to buy through prestige motorsport, they seem pretty trustworthy and don't ask much for their service. They are also user/consumer friendly.

Can anyone reccommend any good compliance workshops to do R32 GT-R's which are over 15 years old? Or one that can do both 15 years and one's under the SEVS rules?

thanks for that.

I'm just a bit iffy about it, i feel like i don't get such a wide range of choice with it.

Is there any help at all i can get with registering/complying and importing a 15 year old car? Not just a GTR, but also a Z32 300ZX or a GTS-4

I know Zoran wont take deposits on 32 plates as he dosent want to make promises that DOTR's wont let him keep.

He and Simon are working very hard for a long time to get vehicles on their list and like every body including myself at a very large finanical loss that we will never recover.

I was a regular at their place for a while until a few months back. That's as much as I'll say but I suppose if they managed to survive in a trade like this, they do deserve a pat on their back.

One thing though, there's more options nowadays in regards to compliance and engineering I'd go walkabout and shop for a better deal.

EDIT: not having a go at you DRIFTT but I've got a question - why would anyone get into a business that they are likely to lose money? Most people that lost a lot of money would've packed their bags and walk away from the game completely ie a lot of those shops that couldn't handle the old system to RAWS transition.

ive only had good views about jappsport.. the guys there lie less than any other car dealer ive ever been to! rare especially when ur talking about imports...

Can I ask what experience you've had with Jappsport? Have you bought a car from Simon and Zoran? Just interested to hear of your experience with them

cheers,

Richard

no worries

i have not bought a car from them, although since i will driving again in 4 weeks, i might soon

I know of one person who a while back imported a r33 series 2 off them, and as they said, it was perfect, one of the best examples you could find..

they recently sold it and bought a r34GTT from them, and again it was apparently in very good nick (ie they got for him what they said they would)

i was helping a close friend of mine find an r33 gtr, we looked for about 5 months and even went to melbourne for one (to find out the owner was a lying idiot) and in the end we went to see one at jappsport, where we met zoran and simon..

we went there a few times and in the end my friend bought a gtr they had there...

what i found with them was they admitted to cars faults didnt bullshit and try and cover everything up, they setup the car on a hoist for us to check it out and discussed everything honestly... that went for other cars they had there as well..

also my friend had a slight problem with the gtr(AFM was stuffed) and that got sorted out without much trouble..

do you know them?

siksII: did your friend bought the '95 GTR a few months back? I may have saw you guys testing the car while I was there waiting patiently to speak to Zoran. I haven't bought a car from them but got a few complied with them though. My very own car was complied with them too if that matters.

Richard: it's not safe nowadays to comment on anything so I better shuddup before I get Prank or myself into hot water  what I can say is, with any business you will always hear mixed review. Some praise them, some throw shits at them and some would shuddup at all.

go nuts, i know what u mean about mixed reviews! they cant be good for every customer, but i usually give leeway to shops who dont try rip you off even if they are a bit dodgy according to some people .. ie rather that rip off import yards that that have good service..

yes it was a 95gtr vspec silver colour stock(obviously as just complied), we had a good look over the car for a couple of hours, there was three of us... i was standing around the garage by myself while they took it for a test drive...

im pretty sure i saw your car there getting a service or something... a funny silver/blueish colour gtr (like in the pics u posted)there cant be many around other than yours... it had a VERY hard biting clutch(i saw them moving it) was it yours?

do you know them?

Yeah, I've known simon for a couple of years, and have done business with him a number of times. I don't know Zoran too well, but I've dealt with him a few times too. I also knew their (now-ex) business partner Atsushi. I was just interested to hear your experience. Sounds like your friends were well looked after, which is good to hear.

Richard

yeah.. ill probably give them a call soon because i want a price on a car for myself,

i will get my license back in 5 weeks so need a replacement car (sold my old skyline)

do you know any other good importers you have had good experiences with in sydney that i could call around?

I don't honestly think there are that many good places in sydney to go to that will import a car for you, so I guess if you are happy with Jappsports service selling cars to your friends and have a good rapour with Simon + Zoran they would be a good place to start.

I am currently importing a car with the help of Geoff Riseby (prestige motorsport) and so far am happy with his service.

Best of luck.

Richard

  • 2 weeks later...

I HAVE DEALT WITH ZORAN AND SIMON @JAPPSPORT FOR SEVERAL YEARS,BOUGHT AND HAD COMPLIED LOTS OF CARS,THEY ARE AT THE FORE FRONT OF JAPANESE CAR IMPORTATION AND COMPLIANCE IN MY OPINION!

THESE GUYS KNOW ALL THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT COMPLIANCE LAWS ,AND THERE SERVICE IS VERY PROFFESSIONAL,"GOOD BLOKES ,NO BULLSHIT" I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM! :spcartman

  • 3 weeks later...

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
