skylinegal
Hi Andrew, a/c stuff i know nothing either, all mods on my girl have been done by evo, cos we bought the car from there, no complaints about their work, definately not on pricing......try new gel in fishwick for your front bar, heard they are good. Got some money to spend huh?? cant think of a better way to spend money than on mods for your car!!!! excellent stuff! tridentt150v
Aircon, sounds like the condenser is freezing, this trips the aircon relay and it stops working, then u go 20 mins and it all trips in again [after it defrosts]. But this is only a rough guess, an aircon reco joint will check this out. Thats the problem with the new gases in an older system. Intercooler and boost control, easy stuff, do 'em yrself. May need an anglegrinder for the intercooler [depending on size], you usually have to cut the underside of the steel bumper bar behind the front bar [which is best off the car while fitting]. Most brackets etc come with the kit I think. Boost control/evc is a simple wiring job. Fibreglass can be done by u as well, go to hardware store and buy a canoe repair kit. Don't be afraid to sand back/cut out old cracks etc Zorst a bit harder, unless you have ramps or a hoist. I'd do all this myself, and save the wages for more mods.......hehehehehe Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/53176-air-con-probsspending-money/#findComment-1044850 Share on other sites
NJR 34GTT
Run the diagnostic mode on the climate control and it may be able to identify for you exactly what is wrong prior to taking it in for repairs. This is likely to save some money as they won't waste time trying to figure out what is wrong. Not sure exactly what the method for diag mode on the 33 is but it can be found on here by doing a search on climate control diagnostic mode. On my 34 you have to hold the off button for 5 seconds within 10 seconds of starting the car, from memory it is a very similar process on the 33. Hope this helps. NJR 34GTT
Oh and btw Intercooler - Source the cooler/piping yourself and you will save a few hundred at least. Shouldn't be more than a few hundred to do the install if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself. SkyGTRline
Cool thanx guys... Yea i was planning on doin the intercooler myself, but as a back up would be goo to know where to go.... Fibre glass.... hmm, this is mah baby were talking about... Ive never fibreglassed before, and am a bit scared of cutting away at my baby. Wiring boost controllers... never done it, not sure what to expect... wether its a easy or hard job... as again just for a back up. Zorst... yea... dont have a hoist... :S Thanx all... exXU1
If you are sure of a full charge , look at sight glass and detect bubbles or liquid flow, pipes are cold on suction and hot on discharge ( smaller pipe) then you have a fan problem , evap coil getting cold but nothing to induce air over it. Check your fan for operation or restrictions , baffles not openning etc. Or you may think it's getting cold but low on charge, ineficient, it will usually not allow the magnetic clutch to pull in on compressor by way of Low pressure switch. Running our gasses on the standard pre 95 rubber tubing will eventually lose it's charge because of the smaller molecular structure of the modern gases in the older style hoses. Solution replace existing hoses with new or find some older R 12 refrigerant , but you will only find reluctant suppliers.
