i think your idea and concept are flawed. driving practice is what a person needs to drive a powerful or what is considered a powerful car. just because you pass a test doesn't mean you can safely control a more powerful car

I think the point is once you have some decent experience/skills behind the wheel you realise how dangerous it really is to flatten it through the local car park etc.

Well let the tests be done in a new V8 ford or LS1 Commo. :P

Hi guys I've got two quick points to throw in.

1. From what I understand despite what the government wants us to believe most accidents could be attributed to alcohol, driver loss of concentration or fatigue. Hi-po cars have no relevance to these causes.

In accidents where speed may have been a factor, hi-po cars are still not relevant. P platers have been wiping themselves out for as long as they've had cars. Ten-twenty years ago there wouldn't be many cars that could would keep up with our hi-po cars of today yet they still managed to get into trouble. I must admit I nearly wiped myself out countless times as a P-plater in my first car a GK sigma (no jokes please).

There is not many people you will talk to who are over 25 that won't admit that they were wilder when they were 18 and that they now drive much more senibly now, so without trying to stereotype everyone lets admit that either due to age or lack of experience p-platers are at higher risk.

2. Why would you have a special hi-po licence when most hi-po cars (factory or with sensible and well thought out mods) will out brake, out corner and be more stable and balanced thru corners than the little shopping trolley buzz box you drive to get your normal licence in? If you are driving sensibly and within the law these hi-po cars technically will be safer so you must be implying that the plan is to driver them faster.

I have thought for a while now penalties such as fines should be replaced with having to re sit your licence or doing community service in trauma sections in hospitals or attending advanced driver training exercises at least partly covered by your own wallet. Turn the money making legislation we have now into educating drivers properly.

And keep the racing on the track, most people don't realise how cheap it can be to get into racing. You don't need to have all the good gear, and there are clubs everywhere if you know how to find them.

I think they should introduce a driver training skid pan course that is part of getting your P's.. Learn the basics of how to control a slide and brake properly.

Too many people don't know how to control a car.

I've seen a little girl get cleaned up by a early 20's lady that could not pull her car up properly. She had plenty of time but due to lack of skill she just locked it.. Made no attempt to unlock either..

bottom line is cracking down on the cars p platers drive isnt going to do shit... more accidents happen in shit boxes than a hi powered car.

u know how many times ive seen an idiot in an exel, prelude, falcon, commonwhore, pulsar (all the under powered cars) speeding in and out of traffic... doing fishys down the street... speeding in and out of lanes? too many... banning them from hi po cars isnt the answer to keeping the road toll down... that rule only runs on the factory readings... what about these people with torrys with huge V8s? a GTS with an RB26?

That has to be the most narrow minded comment I have ever read. If you were the driver in that situation, are you saying your emotions would not switch to a state of panic and force you to slam the brake pedal through the floor? Be honest with yourself before you answer.

I have completed a defensive/advanced driving course and would recommend all to do one. However, it did not affect my driving style one iota. All it did was enlighten me by displaying my cars ability in a controlled environment. By controlled I mean I was expecting to push the brake pedal with a certain force and at a certain point on the track, and I was expecting the car to get side ways on the skid pan. Because every situation was controlled (wether I actually had control of the car or not) forced my emotions to remain calm so I could think about what I was doing. As soon as you're on the road in the real world... good luck.

It is as simple as people need to respect the road rules. Big phat :werd: goes out to Leewah.
