Correct way to get new 12V power

What is the correct way of getting a new 12V power supply?

I want the 12V power to be switched with the ignition, previously i spliced into the 12V power for the stereo...but i knew this was the dodgy way.

What do you want to run? You can switch a relay from the stereo wire. Then, you can pull lots of current.

The current draw wont be near as bad as a stereo. Is there a neat way of running another wire from the ignition to the fuse panel, that way i can fuse what im installing.

The stereo pulls next to no current from the accessories wire. All the current is drawn from the constant power wire.

thats right, the ignition wire is a 'trigger' signal to a built in solid state relay in the stereo ... at least most new stereos are like this .... obviously you might get some that are not ....
