Are you take the rice cracker to the deer?

When I went in April, this year, and the rice cracker was given, I was bit my buttocks by the deer.

It is not painful but many deer came near me and it was fearful.

No, we didn't give any rice crackers to the deer this time. But Troy said he got bit on the asse... I mean buttocks when he went to Nara last time.

One deer tried to eat my camera case...

Actually Dave, it wasn't that busy this time. When I went last time (just on 4 years ago) it was definately busier. This time there seemed to be a whole lot more foreigners too... I think the whole "Japan is really expensive" rumour is finally dieing off and people are actually seeing Japan as a legit holiday destination.

"I think the whole "Japan is really expensive" rumour..."

rumour???? dead-set reality (though the rail pass deals help now).

Other than trips to tokyo, I've only ventured out of niigata once for a domestic holiday (tokyo-osaka-hiroshima-and back) - and it's no surprise I'm going to china next month (it's cheaper than going to osaka for a week!)

as for the shika - have fond memories of a japanese tourist running for his life, chased by a couple of very aggressive bambis (that was at miyajima, though) :(

Actually Diaoni I posted that comment from a "first time visitor to Japan" point of view, many folks I talk to back home talk of visiting Japan now (they didn't, what, 5 years ago... citing cost as an excuse) but now it seems Japan is beginning to break free of that stereotype... even if it's actually true or not.

Yeah, travelling around Japan is expensive, whether in your own car or by public transport. :) If it wasn't for stupidly expensive expressway tolls, I think I would have been to way more places in the last five years than I have now. So far I know about every square metre of Yamanashi (cause it don't cost anything to get around) but once you start getting on the expressway, costs can soon rise and a day trip can cost upwards of 5,000 yen in tolls alone...:D

what were the government saying...they were hoping for all roads to be toll free by 2030...or something like that? By that time they'll probably be no more petrol and we'll all be getting around on electric scooters and won't bl00dy need the expressways! :)

visitor or no, I still think it's too expensive
I don't get the point you're trying to make? Or is that it... you think Japan is too expensive. If so, you don't need to tell me that mate... $30 in toll on Sunday speaks for itself.

my point?

was here; "rumour???? dead-set reality"

that is all.

I don't think it's a rumour! Again, I don't get your point because by telling me it's a "dead-set reality" implies that I don't think Japan is expensive, which, as I said before (eg: getting raped on the weekend by tolls) couldn't be further from the truth.

To make things simple, how many times have people said to you "I heard Japan was really expensive", then told you they'd rather go somewhere like Europe for that kind of money instead? This is what I meant by rumour. Go back and read what I posted and then realize that I'm not letting on that Japan is cheaper than a few years ago (or whatever).

Worst conversation ever.

    • There's no way they left the factory like that. In R chassis there is nothing stopping the steering wheel being put on one spline out from straight, and then adjusting the steering arms to "correct" it (sort of). As well as the indicator cancelling there would also be an issue with how tight you can turn in one direction to the other. The other (less likely) possibility is that the "clock spring" (the circular electronic part that allows the wheel to turn while still having an electrical connection for horn and any other buttons like cruise) might not be in place correctly. I don't have any pics of the R33 (or Stagea) setup but there would be a circular locating tab which sits in the steering column to have it straight...if that is not seated properly then the indicators may not cancel at the right point (and, you might also get a HICAS error since it would think you are driving in circles)
    • It will mostly be bad scoring on the bores, which you can almost certainly fix by machining for oversize pistons. I have to say, I am super surprised that any standard turbos made it 35 years down the track before exploding!
    • Thanks for the info mate was thinking 255/35 rears and 235/40 fronts
    • What's the difference? I would have said that between the front and rear axle lines, there's no noticeable diff between a GTR and an NA 2-door.
    • It will be salvageable. It really doesn't matter what is damaged. Opening up a 30+ year old motor for a rebuild immediately means a complete rebuild of the head anyway. Damaged valves just means an opportunity to put in some nice new ones. And in the modern day, why would you not throw at least a nice set of pistons at something. And if you're doing that, why not rods, and ARP fasteners, and so on.
