Club registration and CAMS affiliation?

Recommended Posts

If you want to join a club so you can do CAMS stuff, then come on down to the Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club. Its built primarily around the Z cars, but there are many newer members with more modern cars - heck, we even have a member with an Astra  and a past president has a Audi RS4 pocket-rocket.

Our next meeting is next Wednesday (Nov 6) at Whitehorse Inn, 5 Burwood Rd Hawthorn. Meetings (supposed to) start around 8:15, but many people come earlier (around 6:30 - 7) for dinner in the bistro. If you join now, you get next year as well (we have a calendar-year membership).

Its just gone up to $55 (up from $50), and there's a once-off $10 joining fee. I think you'll be able to download an application at

www.ndsoc.com.au

For that, you get a magazine every month, and access to another source of technical knowledge. On top of that is a $89 CAMS L2S licence, which you would need even if SAV affiliated with CAMS.

We mainly do 'speed events' (sprints / hillclimbs) with the MSCA (Marque Sports Car Association), in fact we have a day coming up at Calder on Nov 10 (1/4 drags in the morning, sprint in the afternoon). Also, just last Saturday, we ran a driver training day at Sandown. And on Dec 1 (?) we are having a show-and-shine at Southbank. Around every Anzac Day, we go for a drive down the GOR to Apollo Bay, then up to Lavers Hill. And lots more stuff.

And you'll be entitled to enter events being run by other clubs eg Phillip Island sprints run by PIARC.

This is exactly what I envisaged for the Victorian Skylines Australia Club. Social meets, drag meets, track days, show and shines, etc but it seems like it's all come to a grinding halt in the last month or two.

R31 Skyline Chick: The club is setup in terms of incorporation but the rest is still pending. If I wasn't living interstate I'd volunteer to rego the ABN, open a bank account and set up a PO Box because once these little things are done the club can take memberships. And like meggala said, once we hit 30 or 40 members (that won't take long judging by the enthusiasm shown above) we'll get CAMS affiliation and then run some great events and meets.

At the moment we seem to be going through the motions and not going anywere, I think we need to bight the bullet and register the club. Over the time I have seen that people dont want to pay the money for a cams license and that has influenced them in becoming a member. I believe there should be two types of membership, financial & Licensed. The financial keeps our numbers up and allows people who wish to come to meets and cruises to do so , but are unable to paticipate in events were CAMS license are required at least they are given options. The only other option I see for club memebers at the moment to run special track events is to join clubs like the Datsun club or SVD wich think is a bit self defeative. We have the committee so why dont we start taking memberships. I would be willing to pay my money just to get somthing happening and then when we hit the magic number pay for my cams license .

r31 heaven your right the cams license is an issue I think we might do with out it for a while until we have 40 + member plus most of us dont have experiance in running event etc ok a Deca day or some thing is fine but no track days etc Blind elk has said to me and others that we are welcome to his clob the nissan datsun sporting assocaition ( I think) they have ben established for years and run around 10 events a year. I'll get some answers by the end of this coming week the club name is registered in vic we need an abn as well. but you r right we should jsut start member ship and take it from there.

nay way more later. I've been busy the last coupel of weeks so I haven't had much time to put into it.

cheers

It looks like we are going to have a good turn out at the drags on the 24th so we may all want to have a chat to all, and see what their thoughts are. For the first year just to get thing rolling if the membership fee is only ten dollars, just to get the financial members and to pay for any paper that will be generated for the year and get some form of sticker so it gives a sort of belonging, as the R31 Club has. Just some more suggestions, its a start.

thanks nark for that we know what sort of money r31 heaven $10 is a little light cause we wil need to help with the forum up keep but it wont be much more I'll get some figure public by the end of the week.

we were initially thinking of 50 a year but it might even become less than that.

cheers

Saturday I'm working at the Spring racing carnival :)

IF we can organise to get a few heads together to talk shop, then I'd like to put in an appearance on behalf of the R31 crew.

:D

(I'm also not too bad in the 'ideas' department :( )

    • Do you plan on using 98 or e85?
    • This should be pretty easy. 200rwkW is just about the max power out of an RB25 stock turbo. So, 12ish psi on a 2.5L. That boost limited mainly by the prospect of seeing the turbine in the cat after the smoke show. A steel wheeled equivalent would likely happily do ~220rwkW at something like 17 psi, where it would probably be bumping into the usual limits of such a sized turbo. These things have like a .48 rear. You will not need the 0.86 rear. The 0.64 will be fine. In fact, if you were looking at various mid-200rwkW options for RBs, most of them would be in a 0.64 rear. So, I think you will definitely want to be no bigger than that for a same sized but probably even more efficient (at making power) modern engine.
    • Change the subframe bushes, transforms the car.
    • For something a little more serious, Davinci Resolve is about the best there is for free video editors. No expiration dates or watermarks, completely free.
    • Well, it's taken me until the last week of 2024 to actually do something on the Skyline but I consider it a good head start to 2025's efforts! I managed to justify (to myself anyway...) my purchase of the lift table. It made taking the rear subframe out a lot easier than it would have been without anyway! Everything is out and stripped down ready for a clean then powdercoating.  She's pretty grubby under there but pretty good condition for a 38 year old Japanese tin bucket. 12 years of zero street time have obviously helped that... I need to decide which of the factory suspension arms I will keep and replace so I only get what I'm keeping powdercoated.  Baby steps but it's a start!
